Managed to get the Tome recipe on the first try, but still on manuscript recipe.
I'm almost ready to give up hoping that I'll get the manuscript recipe, Ive done over 30 quests and am stuck on a diet of compass quests that require me to make a tome which takes ages.
I'll keep plugging away at this nut am definitely not wasting gems on this recipe.

still no manu recipe for me and I've given up on it for the moment, I made 6 codex after doing the Compass quests 6 times, which is really the only quest dropping in there for me,
It's more important / pleaseurable to do ali baba addys so doing book in excelsior as I want recruitment guides , which have changed the number of troops I can cook in the elite barracks radically
So staying with the book side in Excelsior for the moment and maybe butt heads again fro the manuscript recipe another time

I think it was 17 attempts.
But now I can not get letters when I already have a venture in the star menu.
I try to run annonymus threat and lost compass at the same time but looks like the game will not allow this any more.
Shame.
It finally dropped after about 35 attempts. I'm delighted and happy to move on to Books now, but still think that it's not fair that there's such a huge gap. While I was desperately trying to get the recipe there were constantly ppl telling me that they got it after just one or two attempts. Kinda frustrating...A maximum number of attempts would be nice, so for example let's say you get it guaranteed after 20 tries or something like that. At least you got something to look forward this way.

I have made about 6 codex for this damned quest though which has tried my patience very much.
When the recipe dropped for me I couldn't believe it as I was expecting another 50 stupid gems.
