Frozen or just very slow to load? You have to give it plenty of time and not randomly click on stuff.

Interesting, I think its a pity you always jump back to the download page as it raises the temptation to click download again.
I had been using the new client on the test server with no recent problems.
Downloaded the client on Newfoundland and installed ok, answered all the questions as suggested on your thread. After clicking play I get a window opening on the middle of the screen that contains an out of focus logo 'The Settlers Online' with an out of focus building behind it. A few seconds later I get the white window come up as seen by others here saying I cannot update the client and suggesting check log in etc etc. This is exactly the same thing I had downloading the client on the test server a couple of weeks back. When I tried again a few hours later everything worked fine, am hoping the same thing will happen here.
I went back to the test server to compare and noticed that when logging onto the game on the test server I also see the window with out of focus The Settlers Online and the out of focus building but after about a second another window opens with the 'Harman' logo and the game loads successfully and I am currently logged in quite happily on the test server.
I will shut the test server occurence down and try again on Newfoundland but, apart from hoping the Newfoundland login works later I would like to ask if you can run the test server and Newfoundland server simultaneously?

So, after playing this game for many years, now I cant get in the game to play...
I have tried so many times now and I spent 2h to somehow solve this issue and I cant...
I am playing game every day for at least 4h and I cant now...
Is there any easier and more simple guide how to solve it as I followed instructions and nothing happend? Thank you..

you get kicked of forum and there is no place from forum to log back on- you have to open homepage- refresh that and hope you get to forum as logged in.

All Steam users are locked out. Not a single word from BB about it. The few desperate people who post on Steam TSO discussions only know anything because a few of us players post there too. Shameful really.
They knew Mac, Linux and Steam be issues going in, but done anything to cover it? Of course not.

Crash and Burn. Excelsior is dead. Add a few crystals, push the button and oops. I can see chat scrolling and island animations still playing, but UI unresponsive.
Then took four attempts to restart using new client - would lock on the downloading splash at about the point I would expect the island to start rendering.

Also seems that if you are using a pre windows 10 version you are stuck, looks like if not 64 bit then stuck, Linux are stuck and Steam are stuck. Doubtless there are more
Does not work for me just get a popup saying that it can't update the client. "Your client could not be updated!" Using Firefox and Windows 10.
After downloading file from link it wants to run a win update, -which is not possible.
What can i do?
I have tryed to open link with other clients such as zip and pdf software. Im getting nowhere...

You had lots of time to figure out how you would make this work and are doing this in the end of 2020 just before start of an event....
Before you make such a mayor upgrade make sure everyone is able to play again not only windows players...

I had the same issue. I had to change the settings in my browser properties, under compatibility
Doesn't work. I went through the whole procedure as per your guide three times, used Opera and Chrome. Pop up box says "Your client could not be updated" and that's it!

It would be nice to see something in NEWS on the front page to let us know that something is being done about this!
It would have been nice to have some clear and concise information - the 'Downloadable Client Now Available!' news item makes the new client seem optional to a native English speaker.
When I started played from Steam a few weeks ago it would have been nice if they suggested using a browser instead of my wasting all that time.
If they know that Steam is not going to work then why not give a migration mechanism?
For lots of people it doesnt work. Thats how a company works these days, put something together, doesnt need to test on other platforms and pc's, and they are wondering why they are loosing customers.
Got "something went wrong" box too, win 7, I ws not installing it with the admin login. However, after clicking "OK" with that "something went wrong box", game started loading in that new game window and seemed to work fine.

I cannot find the quote now - obviously been retrospectively edited - but BB_Traffer promised continuity regardless of how we connect. That promised has been broken. They had been promising a mac and Linux interim client since the move to unity was announced. Now Mac users are abandoned till January and will potentially miss out on the best event of the year. Linux users have had their promises quietly erased and are now left without a game. This is shameful. Roll back the update and let us log in with our browsers until flash dies on 12th Jan.

Sorry just tried it but download went OK, and installation appeared to go OK but when I tried to play the game the appears to start but then a pop-up appears "Your client could not be updated Please make sure to start the game via the website .......". I am using Windows 10 and Firefox (also tried it on Chrome) in an account that is not administrator. To be honest I'm not impressed at the moment as the old non-browser game worked fine.
Chat not working, load it and then lost connection (no chat server available) and then reload again
Same issue as Cylani. Windows 10 - edge, firefox, chrome, opera or vivaldi. All with the same message.
