Thanks Harlequin, works for me too.

what can i say, what a star!!!!! ty Harlequin :D :D :D
I found it in the list of failed requests using my network sniffer,
the file name when it is downloading is "00dedec37eed***4dcafba7bb0960159350f6d89.swf"
i changed 3 chars to star ( * ) in the middle incase it is unique filename to my account , and as you said is a different size to the file that BB suggest we download if it fails.
I have a feeling that they ''forgot'' to update the file in the link they provide
They have now updated the file , so the file and instructions they linked should now work
@ https://forum.thesettlersonline.com/...l=1#post361686
We have adapted, updated and corrected the additional file (SWF) in our instructions.
The guide now contains the new file and therefore a fix to the error "Your client could not be updated".
To play with the latest game version, you will need to download this SWF-file and add it to the noted folders.
1.Instructions (with the updated file).
2.Direct link to the new file.
I would like to apologise for this issue and thank everyone for their efforts to get everyone back in the game.
Would be good to note I had to delete an existing client.swf file in the Client Folder and then rename the downloaded file above: 00dedec37eed***4dcafba7bb0960159350f6d89.swf to Client.swf
I didn't read that part on other posts so initially the game still wouldn't load.
Working now
For me, the instructions are "chinese". Is there not a simple and easy way to play again ?
this is getting annoying i have tried all the tips and instructions nothing works why dont you redo a game download that works
if you have tried to run and the game fails with ''cannot update client'', close the game down and
download the file from here
rename the file to client.swf or get my version already renamed @ https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Sg1...ew?usp=sharing
copy that file to the game install directory @ C:\Users\<yourloginname>\AppData\Local\Ubisoft\The Settlers Online\Client
now launch the game from within browser
this is very annoying...I managed to get the game going before xmas event by downloading the swf file, but since this new update I am extremely frustrated.
I have tried all the tips from the guide several different ways but keep getting Client can't be updated.
Anyone else experiencing the same?
Thank you, it is working again
I uninstalled my original standalone client and reinstalled it. Tried to start it so the client folder showed up in the directory. I downloaded the client.swf. Opened the file location and found the client folder. I opened that and it had Adobe Air, META-INF and the Client.exe files in it. No client.swf file was there to replace so I pasted the new client.swf file there. Tried to start the game and it still came back with Your client couldn't be updated.
Is there something I missed? Please help
after deleting the old one (with clearing cache) and also after installing the new one, have you done a win restart?
also , did you tried starting the game in an incognito/safe mode browser?
what browser you using? mozilla stopped flash with the latest update (85 i believe)
Hi John,
I cleared the cache and restarted it after each time. I am on Chrome browser, windows 10- 64 bit
after clicking on START GAME do you get the little chrome pop-up window? if not, clear cookies
try starting the game under Edge browser
Have tried Edge..no good ...I am done...over it
i have tried also the new swf file, does not work for me either, the only swf file works for me is the one from Harlequin,i just deleted everything in the client folder and pasted his file into there and it worked, the link is on page 4 of this post.
dear bb as you seem to be making this game unusable how about a refund of all the gems i have purchased over the years to make up for the 9 wasted years
Is it too much to ask for a new updated standalone client that has the new swf file in it. All this having to download a new swf file, then locating the client file and pasting it in there, is not working for me. Why can't BB just post an updated new standalone client that works!!
It appears that it is. It suggests to me that there is more that is 'iffy' than just this client.swf file. My money is on something related to the log in and the system for some reason thinking that the person who is trying to download the file is not properly logged in. Frankly it's farcical.
the fact that it ends up being a player who solves the issue speaks volumes. and when you consider hacking/altering anything to do with the game files was a bannable offence not so long ago, it has indeed all gone a bit 'couldn't make this stuff up'
Hi Hades....really need your help. When I downloaded the original standalone client before xmas event, I had this same problem. I followed your advice then and downloaded your swf file you posted then. I must've fluked it as it worked and have been going fine since.
After the recent update, I haven't had the same success. Please tell me where I am going wrong.
I am using Windows 10 -64 bit, I have tried through Edge and Chrome browsers.
I logged in through my Ubisoft account
First I uninstalled the standalone client and downloaded it again. I attempted to start the game to get the necessary folders created.
Secondly I downloaded the updated swf file from the post with the instruction guide. I renamed it client.swf
Next I went to the file location where the game is located C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Ubisoft\The Settlers Online\Client
There was no swf file to replace only Adobe Air, META-INF, and Client.exe.
I copied the new client.swf file there.
Next I restarted the comp and logged in.
Clicked on Play Now and the game brings up the usual standalone client screen and then the same message "Your client could not be updated"
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
you need to copy the client.swf into the client folder, which should be at %LocalAppData%\Ubisoft\The Settlers Online\Client
I seem to have a problem finding the client file when I go to the file location at C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Ubisoft\The Settlers Online\Client.
I have no problem with C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Ubisoft\The Settlers Online. Once there the client folder is available. In that is Adobe Air, META-INF and client.exe. This is where I copy the swf file to. Is this the problem in that my copy of the latest standalone client is not allowing or recognizing the Client folder properly?
OMG hades in blue...
replying to https://forum.thesettlersonline.com/...l=1#post361736
open ''this pc'' from your start menu , then type "%LocalAppData%\Ubisoft\The Settlers Online\Client" into the address bar ...... in my case it then opens

that pic it looks as it should be if it is still not working only suggestion i can say is keep the swf file and delete the entire folder and retry if still not working go to the first folder and take a pic of each folder so we can compare whats in urs compared to us that it works so we can see if there is a difference
