i have tried every browser and its all the same
Hi Everyone,
some note of possible solution of not getting stuck at loading. not sure if the IT department will accept.
you need a 5 min stop alarm or pomodoro.
clear all cache (not sure yet the real effectiveness.. but nevertheless, I cleared the cache)
then load the game.
If the game does not load in 5 minutes (max 20 min for distraction), hit the refresh button if you are using browser.
Generally, my first load never load within 5min, but the 2nd or 3rd refresh works.
Please do note CET 0000h to 0200h tend to have longer loading time, in my experience, meaning more than 5x refresh (nearly 1hr) to get a working game while pulling my hair :)
But this is not happen every day, but random (because I don't keep track when this happen, but it happen)
enjoy hitting refresh button if 5 min is up and no game. :)
Please let me know if this practice is not acceptable.
thank you
i do practically same and seems it helps,. sometimes more sometimes less :)
I see the lovely format to fill out and generally cant be bothered.
contant refreshes, cleared this, cleared that, different browsers different pc's and different network connections
even down my works corportate network that has over 1k ppl on it. guess what wont load go figure.
what ever you changed in the code maybe a roll back
im more destined to just give up and quit due to cant be bothered. puts my premium days to waste.
I use several browser, but only three for TSO. Firefox, Palemoon, Internet Explorer (not Edge).
Firefox makes no problem, but it takes a lot of time to load and it runs slow.
Palemoon runs smoothly, when it loads. It usually takes several tries. Don't remember running it in one try. It loads to a certain point and start using memory progressively until uses it all, then freeze. Usually i use PM, because it is my main browser, and it is always running.
Internet Explorer works like always. Whenever i tested browser's speed (using Flash), IE was by far the fastest (on par with Avant, but only when using IE). It is the only one that can handle Flash on full screen out of focus (if u use only one monitor, don't even bother to ask). I rarely use it because Flash is the only thing that is useful for. But lately i use it more because other are getting slower with every update.
You should adjust game requirements !Quote:
Add --disk-cache-size=1000000000 to the parameter

its 2019, who still uses xp, btw. should only be windows 10 compatible, out with old stuff
See workaround has been suggested and that doesn`t work either. Unable to log at all this morning so 1 drop missed and multiple explorers sitting idle! Now at 29 minutes since workaround loaded onto pc and still no better.
Tried latest workaround for chrome (--disk-cache-size=1000000000 addition to setup) and loading bar still gets stuck at 40%!!
WIN10 is for n00bz. It is probably the worst edition ever. I've been playing this game before WIN10, and it worked. It still works in WIN10 if u use "old" technology like IE, and not "new and better" like Edge. Windows are not upgraded because they made it better, but because they made it cheaper and there are people that don't know how they should work, so they can sell it to them for even more money. As i understood the problem, issue are not the windows but Flash and browsers handling it.
tell me about it... Bb couldn`t sort out a party in a Friary!
i use Microsoft edge so latest details on front page are no use to me and I still have problem with long loading times
Normally I use IE no fix for that.... tried the fix on Firefox......and guess what..... no change
One more question - where do you put this parameter in Ubuntu? I don't have a desktop icon, I have Chromium locked to the launcher, and there are no options. And of course the slim browser is no solution either...
Running on two different PC's
One very old PC running Vista and an old version of Chrome (it won't let it upgrade and further) which was exhibiting the slow log in problem and usually needed 3 or 4 refreshes after sticking at the usual point. Have done the suggested mod and today it logged in a lot quicker on the first attempt. It jumped from the normal sticking point to the grey screen which usually pops up just before load completes after a couple of minutes. The normal message screen then appeared and login completed by clicking the green tick. Definitely an improvement.
The newer PC running Win 10 and the latest version of Chrome was exhibiting the slow log on and about a week ago it never managed to get past the sticking point. I had given up and switched to Opera which usually logged in after a couple of refreshes. Applied the mod to Chrome last night and logged in fine then and again this morning.
You may want to add to the recently posted [Guide] Better loading times that this solution ONLY works for Windows users.
the slimbrowser does not work, there is something with the flashplayer and yes i havee chrome and i also has the flash player installed but it still says theat i am missing it. so no that is not a solution
None of the advise in the guide helps stop those 4 big files being downloaded every time, they are probably too big for some internal file size limit and so never get cached. I suspect the only way this will get fixed is if those 4 files are split into smaller files or maybe if the game assets are not packed up at all. The limit is pretty low as far as I can tell, even with the browser set to cache up to 100GB, it still never caches files bigger than around 5MB each.
Same here. It's not downloading issue at all, network traffic stops at that points (confirmed by debug panel and wireshark). It's some silly loop in new easter code in flash. So no caching can help.
im tired of this long loading times why should i play a game that frustrates me been playing for over 4 years so i thing its time to look for something else to play instead of a game where you have to struggle to log in i have done everything that was ask and still no improvement

this is now 2 h
The game is very eager to disconnect and would ask me to refresh my browser on every smallest glitch of my internet connection. This, coupling with the well-known long loading time per every login/refresh, is really a nightmare to me now. Could you please make the waiting time during momentary network disconnection just a bit longer? I think that can be done easily and will make the game much easier to stay stable. Thank you.
I have been trying to load in all day, since event started I have had more and more problems getting in, I have tried the work around as I usually used chrome, that has not worked since event started, have had limited access on Edge, usually taken about two hours to load in, but today no luck at all
cant load the game. the settlersonline.com ping is 160+ which is abnormal. the JAVA is working, but browsers couldnt reach the adress
The workaround for Chrome (better loading times) has been updated - the parameter that has to be added in the Properties window has been changed to:
--disk-cache-size=5000000000 --media-cache-size=5000000000 --disk-cache-dir="C:\chrome_cache"
forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/36989-Guide-Better-loading-times
For Chrome in OSX, in terminal:
defaults write com.google.Chrome DiskCacheSize -integer 5000000000
worked for me (with dev tools open, I now see .bin being loaded from cache instead of being downloaded)
(now looking for a fix on chromebook)
so...a question for anyone who understands the technical stuff....
these loading times problems are just because of the Easter event, is that correct? or is this going to continue after the event?
because I'm just about done with this taking up all my time just to load the game, leaving me little time to actually play -- and I'm not comfortable messing about in Terminal (I'm on a macbook)
Official workarounds for Mac and Linux are now available:
https://forum.thesettlersonline.com/...-loading-times
Also, the workaround for Chrome, Chromium, Opera and Vivaldi (on Windows) has been updated with a screenshot that shows the new version of the parameter that has to be added in the "Properties" window of the shortcut.
My problem is not long loading times - but that loading sometimes stops after 45 seconds ( loading about 60MB ). When that happens, then after clicking reload the loading restarts and usually load for about 130 seconds ( loading about 160MB ) and game starts ( load is 1.3 MB/sec ).
Sometimes the extra restart is not needed.
I have no idea at all what any of that means, and suspect nor do the majority of the people playing the game. How about sorting it out your end instead of asking individuals to mess with the settings on their computers which may impinge on it's performance on other games/apps/programmes?
I confirm that the workaround provided is NOT working at all, sometimes I wait like 15-20 minutes.
Chrome: Version 74.0.3729.131 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Windows 10 64-bit
Flash 32.0.0.171
Also does not work for me in Chrome.
Why should I have to alter settings anyway to make your stupid game work?
I play Elvenar, another Flash browser game and I always log in in less than a minute without fail.
There's nothing wrong with my computer, browser or internet connection so the fault is entirely at server end and seems to be beyond BB capabilities to understand and correct.
I've stuck with this game for years but of late it's become a farce - the Easter event has been a washout - so many eggs missed and daily logins missed.
Unable to log in today to spent what eggs I have - total waste of time.
I'm done with it now, seriously - thank goodness I never spent a penny on this rubbish game.
Cheers BB, it's almost been fun.
Maybe go and learn some coding and how to make a browser game run properly.
It still doesnt work on chrome on a pc ( even with updated command line commands) as chrome will not cache files bigger than 25MB and i have yet to see a command that overrules that default setting.
It works on firefox because firefox does have that setting.
Easily checked by looking into the cache folder at the largest file in there.
The simplest fix would be to make sure no game data file was larger than the 25MB limit imposed by chrome.
Event is over and game still won't load -- refresh, wait for 45 min, refresh, wait for 45 min, etc -- still not loaded -- life is too short don't for this
took me 4 hours to log on last night, 45 mins today and still stuck even with the cache enabled on chrome
I haven't had any slow logins in the past 6 years. Chrome and flash updates sometimes prevent me from login in completely.
Downloading or watching Netflix does increase the loading time significantly but that's not something BB can help :D
