Can't play (Unabale to update client ... message like for many others), but I'm glad to report my shop is working, I can buy gems in the Winter offer :)
this is what i have been reading 11 pages for , first mention of being on legacy account . im actually scared to press the download - i press the play now and it just refreshes the download screen . im on legacy and can not link it to ubi account until after the 28th decemeber .
i want to know if im going to be locked out as im on a legacy account when i download the new client . not the clearest of answers from BB sadly :(
wont get a clear answer from BB at all utter failure on all counts hitting a kill button with out so much as a mention till its done while knowing instantly going remove an awful lot of the client base days before a much looked forward to event indeed was going be the last hurrah for several until unity sorted
Any other company that behaved like that you would expect a resignation out of shear shame and embarassment at how its been handled
wanted in new year a community manager to try bring back the good will and love for game that we destroyed our selves
following the instructions are hard as its in german but im guessing. when installing the file, it comes up with an error. actually words are error opening file for wwriting
There's life - it's taking ages to load, not responding for long minutes, but at least doesn't say "unable to update client ..." anymore.
I followed hades's post and copied his client.swf file to my C:\Users\my_name\AppData\Local\Ubisoft\The Settlers Online\Client folder (Win 7, 64-bit), because it was lacking there

Me too, finally there is life in Sandycove. The installer didn't even create the "Client" directory let alone install the client.swf file. Following Hades instructions we have success, very slow to start up but now we're in it appears normal. I think the installer needs some serious work. Again many thanks to this community where would we be without you.

ok i tried it downloaded it and get the error message of be logged in and load from the web page - yeah thanks for nothing bb :( this is upsetting , as many others said right before the BIG xmassy event is meant to launch and we are stuffed around :(
loaded lovely yesterday, today however it has frozen. Been trying for an hour now and site is unresponsive, very annoyed
On STEAM, in Library under TSO, there's a post that STEAM will discontinue TSO on 31/12/2020, but you can contact support for a de-partnering account that will run on the STEAM website. It wasn't clear wether they meant TSO support or STEAM support, but I logged a ticket with TSO support and await their response.
Looks like BB staff are enjoying their weekend while the gaming world struggles with their client. Not a single response from BB since client launch.
Client seems not reliable, sometimes loads first time, sometimes it does not, sometimes freezes midway loading and needs to be reloaded.
Just a note about login issues: FB, Legacy or UBI login work as usual, that's how you log into your account - TSO web in browser. It's different issue then client. Once you are logged in, than you click PLAY and can start having issues with the game itself. These are two different steps, two different problems. Hope it helps somebody.
Yes I know. Am still waiting for TSO support to get back to me. And yes it is TSO support you should contact. My point was that BB ahve not been very clear with this. Also noone is actaully advising Steam players what they should do. Only me and some other woke players who read forums and feed back info are actually informing people who may or may not even know these forums exist. Basically, Steam players are just locked out.

these guys are for real incompetent, i mean, it's not like they didn't have enough time, flash has been dead for a couple of years now, and they still haven't got this right?

Finally got there and it seems to be working okay.
I don't show hidden files and folders by default so at first I couldn't find the AppData folder. Once I was able to navigate to that it made things a little easier.
Like others I didn't have the Client folder installed following the download. I uninstalled and reinstalled the download a number of times with no joy then it somehow created the Client folder but it still didn't work. It didn't have the client.swf file that Hades provided (thanks).
I tried downloading the swf file from Hades' link but as I am now using Edge as my browser it kept getting blocked as 'unsafe'. I reverted to IE11 and was able to download it and save it to the Client folder, navigated to as shown by Kris.
Thanks to Hades for the file and the screenshot, to Kris for the navigation path, to Allillo for the other screenshot and no thanks whatsoever to BB for making this a pain-in-the-arse experience. I am now able to once again visit Northisle and hopefully some impatient children and bitter adults will have some nice toys and gifts this Christmas.
Personally speaking, I think BB ought to gift us a couple of thousand presents as a sign of goodwill to make up for the all hassle the download is causing.
Just for the record: Farmerama is running Flash web, Unity web and Unity client simultaneously. They are supporting Flash Web till January 11. They even have nice 23 days countdown timer - enough time for Christmas event. Can't see a single reason why TSO guys could not implement both flash web play and flash client simultaneously. Easy enough to do and that would make for nice Christmas event for many who are now frustrated and unable to play. And I think it can still be done - it should not take much work - but TSO people would have to be at work to see what they have done and show some effort in fixing it.
Bleeeeeh .......... I know everybody want's their weekends off, but still ............... can't they show a bit more commitment at least at such difficult transition time?
I am not the greatest with computers but I have annoying habit of reading when something doesnt work till i find a way for it to work so I am glad so many are getting on would annoy the hell out of me if i couldnt..
That being said after reading more this program is 64 bit meaning it will only work on whatever version of windows you have its its 64 bit so if you have windows 8 64 bit it should work etc if you have windows 10 32 bit it wont... why bb deployed a 64 bit app and why it couldnt do a 32 bit is beyond my knowledge if they had then any windows pc could play the 32bit version....i know you can upgrade a 32bit operating system to a 64 bit but ppl would need to look at that at their own risk
Cannot get it to work, I get an error message saying "Your client couldn't be updated". Very frustrating
I got in. All is fine. I'm on Windows 10 and Chrome, had the "Could not update client" message and used fixes in post number 112, 120 (and 128 helped)
I'm in global chat right now, and there are MAC players in. There's fixes for LINUX too. STEAM should have a fix soon. Don't give up.
Steam wont be fixed and the game will be removed from there.

The Client folder never appeared for me so I created it manually and copied just the client.swf file from Hades into it. Took a couple of attempts to launch the client, but I could see the it was copying other files into the Client folder, so the update was working now. Eventually got into the game.
As mentioned elsewhere, the first launch takes a while and the client shows "Not responding" several times. Just left it and it completed.
Thanks to everyone for the crowd-sourced debugging. I swear BB do this deliberately. Release a broken client, disappear for the weekend, let the user-base fix it and roll in Monday with an update...
