epic wood yard

so who bought a epic word yard to clear the quest only to find out it opens another 20 quest's what a crazy resourse sink

having to pay crazy amounts of iron, steel, granite just to get the yard that i paid 5k beans for to work fully. 100k gc at least to complete this quest chain and what do you get at the end of it? 3 coking plants in one building that you cant buff because it costs over 200gc for the buff. thats not worth buffing at that price. only people buying this building are people like me that want there quest chain clear! this is my first 'not good enough BB' post but i feel its required. this should have been optional not part of the main quest.

BB_anyone....do you have normal wood buildings? would you spend over 200gc to buff 3 of them? doubt it!

Yeah, annoying that its included in the main quests! Cant see many ppl wanting it, space wise its a disaster! I was never planning to build it as I have level 5 foresters, cutters and sawmills. I assume only the hardcore settlers will want it for novelty value?

well i though i'd just use it as a coal production. forest, cutter, coking. but the building doesn't cut wood????? whats the point of it if you cant cover all the functions of wood production? surely this building was ment to be all in one?

there are pages and pages of the pros and cons on test server as well as here but BB chose to continue regardless. Most would have just preferred a smaller footprint, and to be fair I may have even considered owning one had this been the case. But there you go...

yeh i've seen alot of those posts but was hoping it would be better when they brought it to live servers. i could deal with it being rubbish if it wasn't such a major quest as part of the main chain

You can't use any nasty words though, because that might upset their tender souls.

I wont buy one for the main reason listed here that its not cost effective considering I already have a great production chain for what this building does. Also the fact it gives exp as a reward when completing the quests. is stupid for when it is wasted at level 50.

It's cost effective if you look at it in a longer term - you can free BLs and building space by removing coking plants.
If you get both EWys (gems&beans) you could also easily get rid of ewsm(s)..

Perhaps this building ain't that needed for some as long as those rock-removers ain't coming, but to me it's sounds like most people here are rather disappointed with the sucky foresters and lack of cutters than trying to see what this building can do. I mean, c'mon! Are your coking plants holy or what?

They are not cost effective, essentially they have been brought in to help as a save saver…..bit like the big storehouses….or at least thats what BB say they do, which seeing as you are limited in where they can be placed, kind of defeats the object.

having looked at it in more detail, once i spend crazy money unlocking the exotic wood function, its just about worth a buff....

Epic workyard - its a no from me :p

Anyone has some clear info on the walking time of this building? As I look to the footprints it just goes to my storehouse. Somewhat odd for a forester, makes me wonder which deposit is being filled :/

Dear BB.

Are sure that you did any calculations before you fix the production times for this HUGE and difficult to place building as the Epic Wood Yard (EWY)?
I believe that you fix the times in random and let me document it, with numbers.

As we all know the EWY has the size (4x6) of 6 (six) normal buildings, at it has the (BIG) problem that you must find a place with no interruptions of bushes, trees, etc.

As the most players who use it have already level 5 buildings, it will be worth ONLY in case that it can replace MORE than 6 buildings!

Let see the first, the Pine Wood Forester (PWF):

The PWF is a level 33 and has a production time of 10 (yes TEN) minutes.
If we add 32 seconds (a minimum) for transfer time we’ll have 10:32 (632 seconds) to add 33 trees. If we use all the three sectors (as PWF) we’ll have 99 trees in 632 seconds, to serve 3 different places and support 3 different cutters.

In the same space we can have 6 of our old (level 5) PWF, which have a production time of 2:15 for 5 trees. If we add them the same transfer time (32 seconds) they need 2:47 (167 seconds) to place a total of 30 trees in 6 (maybe) different places and support 6 different cutters.

We can easy see that in the time of 632 seconds our normal PWFs can run 3,78 times and place a total of 227 trees, instead of Epics 99 trees.

Please answer me WHY I must buy this “Epic” thing ???

I hope for an answer and even better for a correction in the production times. ;)

I cud b missing somethink here so plz correct me if im wrong. But if u use it as a giant coker, it has the sameinput out put as 6 lvl 5 cokers but the production time is about 1/3 quicker than a standard coker. is that right? so basically it cud save u maybe 8 building licences?

who ever had that [removed] idea for this epic wood yard, never play the game , it s pretty obvious, he/she thought it will look good on the cv , no point to get it , it seems that BB doesn t listen to their customers, and it s a waist of time and ressources for everyone, also those quests giving xp to player are probably good for people under lvl50 , but i can t see any points for a player at lvl 50 to do them, and can t believe they didn t think about it at all , was it difficult to give star coins instead of xp for players at lvl 50 , another proof BB doesn t play the game or lost touch with the game .

Maybe it depends what you have on your island and how your play style is but I think this is a great building. It's very versatile and actually allows you to free up licenses and space from your island. My island was 100% filled so I used test server to find and plan the places for these (yes, I got em both) and actually found over around 10 good places and over 15 in total.

After fully upgrading them by doing all the quests I was able to free up around 20-25 (lvl 5) building spots and licenses (sawmills, coking plants and storehouses built for them) and filled the extra spots mostly with manors at the moment and gaining +2k popcap. In future I can use the space more properly by redesigning layout and using the licenses to additional production chains. Yes the woodyard takes a lot of space but you gain more space with it than it uses. Also its a lot more flexible as you can switch between different production lines depending what you need.

The soup buff is also mostly good too, during the buff with 3 lines in use the yard produces around 10k ewp or 10k hwp (compare to market value) and the buff cost is around 200 coins and will be less in future when bean value drops again and people get them with explorers.

Why was this building added with its claiming it covers an entire production chain with its doesn't cut trees down?

I didn't do any research into the Epic Woodyard, and thought i would buy one to cover my bad coal problem, now I find myself regretting buying one as now I either leave the wood yard planting trees which gains me nothing in the game, or I build a heap of woodcutters....

I hope changes are made for the Epic Woodyard as the building doesnt stand up to its name I am sorry to say.

I think its meant to simulate what happens 'in the building' with regard to wood.

Nursery is grown within the building (seeds)
Wood is changed into planks with the building
Wood is burned into coal within the building.

But the actual 'chopping' of trees happens outside the building, and therefore not strictly part of the woodyard.

That being said, it is rather sad that its not included as part of the game object woodyard. I would much rather have it included and no cooking plant. Could at least take care of all the seed -> Plank production chain (which is the one we are really concerned about).

wish I'd read this before buying mine - what a waste of gems, space, and the resources to upgrade are just plain stupid.

The resources to upgrade do seem silly. Upgrade buildings you never plan to use again just so you can get a building license for the Epic Woodyard. It would have been better if the upgrades were somehow applied directly to the woodyard.

In my situation, I'm upgrading 4 buildings to level 5 which I will destroy as soon as done :P

The ability for it to do the entire resource chain would have been brilliant. Especially if it was 'balanced' correctly. I.e.:
Slot 1 plants just enough for Slot 2 to chop and it chops just enough for Slot 3 to turn into planks (or coal).

That being said, that does not necessarily mean an epic building HAS to do all this. It can do other things and still be useful. So how can this building in this situation be useful?

Well, it DOES cut down on having to have a bunch of Foresters or Saw Mills.

In full Forester Mode, you just need to surround the building with cutters. Saving on having to build foresters AND cutters.
In full Sawmill/Coal mode, it does not even need to be near the forest and it can do its thing, giving flexibility in placing.
It can be buffed with a single buff to really boost productivity, which is also not bad.

So yes, its not that great.. but its also not bad. And if (for whatever reason) you want flexibility between what it produces, you get that for free. For example:
Typically I'm churning out HardWood Planks... but.. my stockpile of Exotic Wood has grown. I can now switch it all over the Exotic Planks, buff it, and then switch it back when done.

Likewise, if I mess up things and suddenly need a lot of coal, I can switch it to mass produce coal, and I'm okey again.

It says in the settlers wiki it has a cycle time of 2:15 when planting pine but it over 10:00, does it get faster if you do the quests?

If it produced cut wood then it would be worth it... maybe, but without that it does seem rather pointless

My guess is that the completionists in the game will have built one to clear all the quests. Luckily I'm not one of those and, having seen the costs of this building, that quest will still be there for ever. Totally daft.

I felt this way for a very long time, but I bit the bullet when coal prices went crazy a while back (production increase weeks) I decided I needed one and TBH I'm pretty pleased I did. The buffs are cheap to make and it saves a few building license, it has the versatility to switch between the different sorts of planks if I'm running low. No pinewood or hardwood sawmills which saves 4-8 license, it can churn out a healthy amount of exotic wood planks.

The principal reason I'm happy though is coal, the stuff coming out in the new expansion is coal hungry and I get at least another 2-5 years use from it so the base cost of doing the quests seem to have paid for themselves.

I don't regret building it. As bluesavanah has done, I've reduced the licenses used for hardwood sawmills. I didn't have a pinewood sawmill either, but now I just make some when I need it. I've reduced the number of foresters I have. And when I have weapons turned on, I turn on the coal.

Also, when you need more exotic wood planks, turning on all 3 exo planks and putting on a soup buff, the thing powers through exos.

nvm all that. the question is: will it be upgraded to produce mahogany planks with the XXL pack? if not we should make some noise.
