to all those quitting

Hi

been reading forums and seems a few old long term players are quitting or thinking about quitting coz of the new weekly quest thingys

I am also a bit narked at some of the tasks but as a long term player i wont be quitting playing coz of it im just ignoring them for now.

one of my guild members is currently handing her stuff out in guild which is making me sad but please concider just sleeping your islands for now then maybe come back after a short break coz its gutting the ammount of peeps i know on sandy that are thinking of leaving the game or have quit already

you can always just ignore the weekly quest thingys and still play how you normally do and not leave the game its just really sad so many are doing it or thinking of it coz this new thing they added

most days i dont even do owt in the game but chat as its the people and friends i come back for mostly and the banta etc if i get bored i do a addy or whtever but its not the main reason i keep coming back all the time the people are the friends are and im just gutted that loads seem to be leaving when they can just ignore the ship things

I won't quit no matter what, this game is my way of de-stressing my brain. I have a hard stress diagnosis, and this game helps me a lot. I have very good close friends in game, and I am gonna miss those quitiing a lot. Some of them I have been playing along with for years... it makes me very very sad... luckily i do have some of them as friends on Facebook too, but why whall a silly stupid game expansion (which we are not reqiured to do) ruin it all?

It's not just the weekly thing, those are pretty easy to ignore if you choose to. It's a gradually increasing list of things which is driving people away.

- Increasing amount of event resources needed each year for stuff only available during events.
- poorly tested hotfixes that keep introducing more bugs than they fix, which leads to
- random long maintenances with no notice and which causes chaos when your economy relies on a certain balance.
- dishonesty from developers, eg "we will introduce this"->"actually that was a translation error, we never meant that!"

They need to direct more time to testing and paying attention to critical bugs found on the test server rather than sticking their heads in the sand and adding more stuff you need to buy gems for.

for me, it's not simply the weekly challenges (which are actually chores), it's the whole game and the lack of gameplay
log in every day and spend an hour clicking the same things you click every day .... no fun, just boring ....
it would be so easy to add proper old-style settlers gameplay ... but instead, we just get new chores to do every day .... new sets of instructions to follow ....

the event stuff yeah defo they add new things in shop always good but the drops to get the event curency like eggs pressys and pumpkins dont go up so its not fair and makes us make choices use gems or pick what we want out the shop thing to balance that they need to make the event items drops a hell of alot better if they adding double ones needed then they should atleast double the drops i think
halloween event just gone i didnt have time to do addys to fill the patches and OMG i still hate refils prefered when was just pumpkins in loot but my fattys did most my event for me and i managed to get all the people and the 3 houses but thats cz i have over 20 fattys doing the hunts.

the bugs im just so used to they add something 2-3 more things break been here long enough to know its not gonna work how it should do straight away

maintenences maybe they need to bring back the old weekly ones and not just ones to add new stuff in the game?

the dev thing i only noticed really with this no luck based thing in weekly quests but the addys they want you to do is all luck based on if you have it or not i think.

BUT if players have a break rather than quit and sleep the islands it might give the smurfs time to fix what they broke

Invested way too much time and money to quit over something i dont like its much easier to just walk away for a few months and then come back and see whats changed i did that for 2 years ....

Thank you Kotugo for your comments as you have summed up my feelings. As the person lulu mentioned who is leaving the game and handing out my stuff I know it is making a lot of people unhappy but it wasn't the new weekly thing that prompted my decision which has been in my mind for months since I got to my level of 66 it was just the last straw. I just don't enjoy playing any more and as much as I did enjoy the chat in the past it is not enough to keep me playing. It has become just a chore and I logged in each day out of habit. I have neglected so many other things I enjoy in life especially reading as I have hardly read at all in the 3 years I've been playing. My life has changed so much in the past few years what with a new husband, moving away from my childhood area where I lived all my life till then and leaving behind my close family & friends to start a new life. Add to that the purchase of a Harley Davidson which we spend so much time on in the summer. There is so much I have walked away from and given away in real life that to pack up playing a game is a minor thing to regain more free time to do what I still enjoy. I actually only started playing TSO as my then boyfriend played and it was something to share with him...he is now my husband and actually doesn't play as much as I did due to his job of a long distance trucker. I miss doing some of the stuff I did before so I don't feel I am giving anything up but I will be gaining the time back to do these things.

Good luck shewolf. sounds fun, what you have. I have less time now I have moved to a new life in Scotland and am enjoying that. I have taken on another project, and am playing less myself. I am finding the game not as much fun, and am atm just logging in and chatting and playing, and will see if the game gets worse. People are leaving, and it's not what it was, but then, nostalgia never is! LOL.

Pretty much the same as you lulu, RL isn't let me play and may force me out anyway.
But this is starting to look like what happened on king.com (renamed royalgames), we stuck around for the company but week in week out people are dying off, logging in there now is like perusing the obituaries column, just shows what a close knit community formed that we knew each other outside the games.
Already said goodbye to some very close friends on here, Halloween 2016 was particularly brutal with several passing during that event.

Take some time off, come back for next event. Thats what I do, works well.

To be honest, I like what BB do with new things that really good and restore some goods value like stalks and more things, but I'm one of who soon to quit because:

- The game becomes almost unplayable with the number of bugs that they add to the game after each update and hotfixes!
- Adding to previous point the game freezes and lags become worst without clear reason!
- The graphics level outdated badly, and all newly added content are not good as the original first versions of the game (as for example animations and effects, currently they just "reuse" old assets without even the quality of the first version).
- The game becomes boring because of fewer people I see around, during events you can get some players to join you but outside it is hard to sell LS as for example.
- Support is totally useless these days, whatever you sent the only reply you get is to clear cache, even when I reply that I did that already they just ignore you and you don't get any responses, no more.
- The whole ideas, in general, are repeated, no more new things like the quest all about train something, pay something, complete something you get rewards, that's it.
- no PvP, and no, the current "PvP" it is not PvP at all.
- My last gem pit is gone, no more gems = no play.

For me currently, I only play during events.

Yes I agree with your points. But also that not just this weekly challenge but also other new additions points to that they want us to change the pace of the game from being a slow game. To keep up people need to have higher production rate. More gem buildings - more everything - more time spent on game.
They can chose to gem their way- a tempting solution. But by doing so, it will kill the game. Some of us been there done that in other games. For me it is why I ended up playing settlers. So really hate seeing the same here. I get that they need money, but this is a bad way to get them.

I can see that I did last post. Looks that now it is me to quit.
Our super Guild leader Trumpeteer finally packed it in and I think (hope) he found a new game. I will join to see how that goes.
Cant talk for him 100% but this I think sums it up for both of us:
No new game content that brings activity besides white maps where gens move in slow motion and quests that requires that you give away troops wihout using them. Chat in both guild and global that goes more and more empty and quiet. Only very few new players seem to join.
BB starting to ignore any kind of critics no matter how massive it is.
BB more or less ignoring the questions about the game future, with flash ending. The game starting to show same symptoms as other games that are dying. (Endless events that encourage people to use gems and real money). This makes us think that they are closing down anyway.

I have stayed longer than I should, because I like the basics in this game. Not competition among players, but lots of cooperation if you want to, but freedom to play as you like it. The chat and the friends I got made me stay, even though I have been bored and getting more and more annoyed past year or 2.

What is it with this 2020 deadline you all have for the game????

I cant see the game dying coz if it was why do they keep adding new gens etc
just coz flash wont be supported or whatever it was i read that dont mean to me the game is dying
if they went into same mode anno online did and didnt add new things or do mainteneces then yes i would say RIP to the game
how do we know what they have planned we dont but i cant see them adding new gens etc and scout house and other stuff i seen on test for valentines if they gonna kill the game.
think some need to lighten up on the 2020 rubbish and think logicly

as for spending gems nobody makes you buy them just get them free loads do off the excelicor and quests and achivments.

i just dont think the smurfs would add the stuff they have been if they was gonna kill the game that makes no sense to me if they was gonna kill the game i rekon they would just not done nothing new

Lol it’s been going on for years, since I started playing in 2014 players have been saying that the game will “end soon”. I think some people are at that wavering point of ‘do I carry on or not’, they kind of don’t want to play any more but kind of do because they don’t want to give up what they have. By talking about the game ending, they almost want it to happen so that they can get closure. Maybe it will end soon, maybe not. If you enjoy playing, keep playing but if you don’t, just stop - even just for a bit like I have.

totally agree i just wish they would stop moaning sometimes. its like ok you wanna quit then quit why make a big drama over it
it is defo depressing
maybe they bored with the game maybe real life has got busier

and on the other hand some are never happy unless they are moaning all the time i know you cant never make everyone happy all the time but i feel some players need to give their head a wobble at times i think

it is a game.
play it if you want and have mates you like talking to and have fun etc
dont play it all the time if you dont want.
have a break some players do that as well it would still be here if/when you came back

It might be to the fact that the game depends on flash to work and as that will no longer be usable as the browsers drop or/and block its use within their software and BB have kept very quiet on what the future holds its not a hard leap to see why so many think the game is ending or dwindling down ...most other games have or will either close or move to another platform to continue...BB has stated it has no intention to move to another or remake the game or platform..so what do you expect players who have spent time.effort and money to think...if the player base was given some concrete assurances that they have it all covered for when flash will no longer be viable then you would see all the negativity go away

I think flash being blocked is probably why the game seems to have suddenly gone so quiet. Even though the steps to get it working are fairly simple, I had to find a guide on the forums to figure out I had to just click to "install flash" each time, which did not make sense when I already had flash installed. Considering the button which pops up is styled with the settlers theme, maybe this needs adjusting to make it clearer that the link also gives flash permission to run in addition to installing it if it is missing.

As a flash game it means the development team will be using adobe actionscript to program the game itself. This probably stops them moving to something like html5 as they would have to sack or retrain the current programmers and create the game from scratch in a new language.

BB_Alex said on the test forums that they may consider using adobe AIR since that's the only path they have where the current developers are not too badly effected.

The major issue is that this adobe AIR changeover should have happened before flash became blocked, it's probably too late now to bring a lot of players back if they have been unable to load the game at all for an extended period of time.

Many other companies will be facing Flash issues so I have faith that can be worked around. There's always another way when it comes to computer code.

As far as things feeling like they are winding down what is bothering me most is that BB doesn't seem to care anymore. It's like someone breaking up with you. They just stop talking, don't pay much attention, clearly their interest is elsewhere. Bugs aren't getting fixed, little events like the Wishing Well have been forgotten about, support apparently issues 95% generic responses, the only entries in the forum from them are criticisms of players and corrections of players. It feels like everything has been put on auto-pilot because they are busy on other things.

There's no facts in my statement, just an impression.

And since I'm going on my 5th year I don't like the "get over it it's just a game" point of view. It's been an investment of time and money. I've created something that I would like to continue. Sure, it's virtual. But it's still something that matters to me. My analogy when I explain to non-gamers why I spend so much time in it is having a garden. A decorative flower garden. I knew a woman that was into exotic orchids. It took her a lot of time, daily tending, checking moisture levels and humidity and many other things. And what is a flower really worth? You look at it. You enjoy it. But is it very tangible as it relates to the more practical and important things in life? Not really. But she enjoyed it.

If someday I try to log in and I just see "game over" I would feel like she would if she got up and all the orchids were gone.

If things must move on I would hope that this version just becomes stagnant. No new features, no special support, but that things stay up and running for those that want to just keep tending the garden.

BB_Alex says a lot of things but are these personal opinions, as per the weekly challenges nonsense, or informed insights? Just a shame no-one from BB is conveying a clear message to the players, many of whom spend cash to buy gems which keeps the devs employed longer term. It is this lack of two way conversation which is pushing players away. Recent BB's had their short-comings but at least they talked to the customers.

So, is the game closing in September 2019 when the new settlers game is launched (Oh didn't know about that one did we?), in 2020 when flash dies, or will it outlive both of these events? Come on BB let us know, after all players are merrily buying gems and using them to buy gem pits...are they guaranteed a year's output?

PS I play several other flash games and every one of them has trialled a html version of their game.

That new game has nothing to do with TSO as it's mainly a single player game with limited multiplayer features as in no persistent world. In fact it would be the opposite if the same teams would be involved as they would have been super busy past months/years to hit the deadline and TSO would have been a side project with little to no updates.. but we have seen the opposite of it as there has been more features added and more events held than ever before.

However people already have troubles logging in with various browsers and early 2020 it will be impossible to use some browsers at all. BB said no to HTML 5 so their only option is a downloadable game, either the existing slim browser or some other app. I don't think all users will transition to such things so the userbase will get even smaller.

The tone of what BB_Alex said about the weeklies was one of here is how it is and it's set in stone, like it or lump it. It was not one of somebody offering a personal opinion,it was one of my ball, my rules.

Yes we did know about the new game, it was mentioned in global approx 6 weeks ago and you have previously mentioned it. As for flash it's so case of the final version arrives in 2020 after which Adobe cease work on it. it's like Microsoft abandoned all work on XP years ago and yet for good reasons business's are still using XP based systems, guess what they can't use the latter versions of chrome etc so maybe picking up a ex-business PC for a pittance to play the game might be a idea, my last one of those lasted me quite some years.

That some have trailled a transition from flash is encouraging, it shows that it can be done but it does not say what any platform any particular flash game will be running on be it html5, air or other.

More features and more events does not necesarily mean more work being done. I would argue that introducing another geologist or explorer is not something that would tie all the teams resources for weeks at a time, more like something you could spend an afternoon on (apart from maybe the graphic design).

Of course it does mean more work is done and its not even a single person but multiple from artists, narrators, qa, translators to design and coding team. I was not also thinking just a new geo or explorer but past year we have had thing like mcc, weeklies, in game guild market vote, improved mail, island expansions, anniversary event, etc. not forgetting the old events get a lot more offerings plus all the mini stuff in between.

I doubt that.You might be right regarding mcc,guild market vote & improved mail system.

But: the majority of the new stuff is designed to generate revenues... Let it be the training grounds,the scouting post,the events (demanding more & more if you want a lot of event-stuff...) and let´s not forget the "weeklies" and the kill buffs for gems...

Yeah I never said anything it not being about profits as of course it is. If you look at what I originally replied to it was about the game closing down in September which would make no sense related to new game or the pace of the new additions.

there is no work round for flash. its either change the programing to webassembly or the game closes.
Dont even think flash will last till the end of 2020 as microsoft and mac have both saiid they will remove flash in an update from every system before adobe removes flash.

BB say use slim browser to get round the flash problem. But slim browser is just chrome with no security on it all but even that is switching to webassembly.

As far as i can see webassembly is replacing flash, JAVA and HTML5.

As its not a plugin like flash it wont crash. Its actualy programmed into the browser itself and all browsers will be switching to it.
So far Edge, firefox and chrome have already switched to webassembly and its not compatable with flash, Hence why so many r having probs with games and websites still using flash.

Flash is a major security risk which is why its getting removed. JAVA is even worse than flash. So webassembly is designed to get rid of flash and JAVA. But webassembly still uses the JAVA coding.

From what i read about it its just a case of adding a bit of code into the browser to get games running on it. But the devs will have to do that. think BB need to contact the webassembly devs to find out how to swith too it too see if its a viable option to flash. Either that or the game closes.

Just ignore the 'way out expensive' parts

Rewards are just for upgrading pop limit which shouldn't be a problem anyways

Put yourself in a devs seat. You have spent an age working on a bit for the game then hear that flash is to be pulled, you would want it uploaded to the game too i reckon, if only for your CV. May be why such a sudden flood of additions; all clearing their desks onto the server.

Then there would be no point adding it if the game was gonna die
im sure if it came to it bb would give good references anyhow

but for me makes no sense adding new things they killing the game
as i read it flash is not going to die it just wont be upgraded no more
so flash will still be around just no more adobe updates i think

That's not how real life works. Devs don't really make the decisions alone what to do or not. There is always upper management approving things and planning for the coming months or years with a proper schedule so resources and time are not wasted. No one would approve people to waste time to do random things, especially judst to up their CV just to use it for another job ;)

Making the changes and new content costs money so there needs to be enough time to recoup the costs back with profits. Don't forget at the servers, support, etc. alone are a cost so development time goes on top of all that.

i still think they arnt killing the game like loads do with the 2020 timeline some players have tho :)

I would normally agree but seen it in other games ....alot of the new things are for gems which means revenue as ppl have to buy the gems we have had a heck of alot of new stuff that requires gems to pay for them and i have seen that in games before when they are closing i really hope that isnt true as i have spent a fortune in time and money on this game as i love it so much and hope its around for many years to come

omg The more I am reading thread, the more I thinking about which knife is the sharpest, it is a pop in pop out past time. For me its a diversion from the boring TV or the missus depending on her mood, but its not life, its a enjoyable pastime game with the chat and co-operation of other players. Personally it is more than a pastime to me. I might have said it in the forums (I don't remember) but I know I've expressed it to non-gamers so they could understand the apparent insanity: I think of it has having a hobby of growing (for example) exotic orchids. Some take a lot of care, you can't forget or ignore them or they will die. So I've created these lovely orchids over years - sure I could just "forget" about them and let them die. They won't feel anything, they are just flowers - right? But I've put so much time and have so much pride in the collection I've made that it seems a pity to just dump them all on the compost pile.

So Settlers (or it's absence) isn't life-or-death or a reason for either but I've invested a lot and so consider it something more than a deck of cards I pick up, play with, and put back into a drawer.

(btw - most people are not worth associating with in my opinion - I avoid them all as much as I possibly can. Their interactions are typically shallow and selfish. As Dilbert said "I have nothing against the concept of social interaction. I simply don't like people").
