I would very much appreciate it when instead of, or rather in addition to sorting friends/Guild member on Level, they are first and foremost sorted on whether they are on-line or not...
It makes searching for specific people for whispers and trades much faster, in my opinion.

My friends list is filled with contacts I've made when buying or selling lootspots and swapping buffs. Among the list of hundreds of people are a few closer friends though. I wouldn't mind an extra tab (alongside all, friends, guild) which you could customize. Assign the players you want in whatever order you want to make it most convenient for yourself. In my case, it could be 'real' friends on top of the list, regular buff swappers to bottom of list, and in between a few regular trading partners.
One feature that would solve the problem for the OP would be a toggle that changes the sorting, so you could change the order from level to alphabetical to online/offline... And a search bar wouldn't hurt either.
Not a bad idea, but the online indicator itself has been flaky to say the least since Closed Beta days.
Some of these simple bugs really should be fixed by now, then perhaps we could use things like this to add more functionality.
It's a mere suggestion ;-)
Bugs and flakiness obviously come first.
This could be implemented when they add the last online info and whether the guild member has done the quest or not.
