I don't see your logic. having more space won't remove the need to build fields or send explorers.
What do you mean with planting fields? the wheatfields? before asking more space, try to improve your buildings, buy silos so you dont have to build like 20 fields a day etc and other improved buildings
there is no real need just yet imho. Though if they keep the current building model up, it will be (the multiple buildings to reduce production timers/refresh timers)
Part of the game is making a choice and investing in upgrading - which for many u can now do to lvl 7. Just adding more building areas is the easy route and makes all the other routes more or less pointless if every time people feel they need more space, it gets added
