The aftermath

The adventurers lost track of time. It seemed as if the hurricane had been going on for hours. Everything more than a few meters away from the monument was a swirl of rain, dirt and debris, every few seconds illuminated by a sharp light of a thunderbolt. The adventurers and the villagers stood cramped together around the monument, holding on to each other, fighting the winds that were trying to blew them away.

After what felt like hours, the winds started to subside. The dark clouds dispersed and the adventurers saw the extent of the destruction caused by the hurricane. The entire area was devastated: the wind took trees, stones, whole parts of the ruins and also tents and equipment of Brandubh’s soldiers and scattered all of this around. Some objects were thrown into the ground with such force that they created deep ditches and craters.

The adventurers were so tired that for a dozen or so minutes no one even moved. You and your companions were the first to get up. It turned out that you and the villagers were not the only ones who took shelter beside the monument. A few of the Black Raven’s soldiers heard Orowa’s cry and joined the crowd that was cramming around the statue. No one had noticed them in the ensuing chaos and now they were throwing down their weapons and surrendering.
“We’ll take care of them.” - said Rudolf - “They’ll work off their crimes by helping rebuild our villages. We’ll go back as soon as everyone…”
“Hey look! What’s that?” - MOD_V4lkyrie interrupted him, pointing at the horizon.
A strange flying object was slowly approaching the island.
“Oh for crying out loud… What now?” - moaned Rudolf.
Everyone scattered around, preparing for a new fight, while the object closed in. It looked a bit like a ship, but instead of sails it had several large wings and equally large purple crystals.

An unexpected visitor

The strange object lowered its altitude and gracefully landed in a nearby clearing.
A few villagers threw down their weapons and ran back to the devastated forest, their eyes full of fear. You could hardly blame them. Evil warlocks and dark powers were terrifying, but they often appeared in legends and stories, and thus were an at least somewhat familiar threat. Flying ships - that was something completely alien.

A large hatch opened in the side of the ship’s hull and a long ramp slid slowly to the ground. A young woman in purple outfit came out of the ship and approached the group.
“Hello!” - she greeted the group in a friendly tone. - “I mean you no harm.”

A fellow adventurer?

The newcomer quickly proved that she had no hostile intentions. Her crewmen provided medical aid for those injured in battle as well as food, drinks and tents for the approaching night. Everyone was especially impressed with the extremely effective foreign medications that the crew of the Excelsior had at their disposal.
“Where did you even get this stuff.” - said Orowa incredulously, sniffing at a jar of bluish leaves. - “I don’t know even a quarter of it, and I organize adventures to the furthest corners of the world for a living!”
“You pick up stuff when you travel a lot.” - said Sonya, sipping her tea.
“So you’re an adventurer as well?” - asked one of the mods.
“In a manner of speaking… I don’t do much action or fighting anymore. I mostly gather and share information, and also find people best suited for a given task.”
“We can deal with any task.” - boasted Orowa.
“Is that so?” - said Sonya with a smirk. - “How about we put that to the test?”

A mysterious letter...

“Two weeks ago we encountered a deserted wreck of a ship.” - said Sonya. - “Our investigation found out that it was attacked by local pirates, but we were unable to learn anything certain about its origin. Inside the wreck we found a bag with a letter. Unfortunately, the bag was hit by some sort of shrapnel shell and the letter was torn into small pieces. Would you try to put it together?”

It turned out that it was a letter from a young princess from a distant kingdom. Some time ago her stepmother had killed her father and tried to kill her as well. After the princess fled the kingdom, the evil queen turned the whole realm into a place of darkness and misery. Eventually, the princess managed to retake the kingdom with the help of loyal lords and dissatisfied citizens, but her forces took massive casualties during the war. As a result they now have problems clearing the forests of the realm of wicked creatures that had multiplied there during the reign of the evil queen.

“She says that the forests are infested with giant insects.” - said Sonya. - “Fortunately, I’ve already encountered such infestation before, and I have a recipe for a substance that will kill the creatures and destroy their nests. We can brew enough on our way to this kingdom. If you feel up to the challenge, of course?”

Pest control!

It was a battle like none you’d ever seen. Instead of a sword or a bow, you had an arquebus-like device which fired jets of purple liquid. On your back, instead of an arrow quiver, there was a large tank which held the substance brewed by Sonya on the way to the island.

You saw a movement in the corner of your eye. A large black beetle, the size of a dog, came out of the bushes and charged right at you, it’s wings buzzing furiously. You aimed the sprayer and shot a stream of potion at the creature. The moment the substance hit it, the beetle started to smoke and after a few seconds it turned into dust. You destroyed two more beetles who tried to attack you from behind and took a moment to look around. MOD_Daz set his sprayer to a wide cone mode and was using clouds of the substance to keep a large group of beetles at bay, while MOD_Rebus was helping one of the recruits to unjam his weapon. You teamed up with MOD_Yardly and MOD_V4lkyrie who just returned with freshly refilled tanks and quickly eliminated the creatures. You were all trying to fix the malfunctioning weapon of the recruit when you heard the voice of MOD_Hauter:
“Over here! We’ve found the nest!”
You forced your way through the bushes and saw a large nest made of blackened, decaying wood. A beetle the size of a horse stood in front of it.
“It must be the queen!” - shouted Orowa, floating above the battlefield.
The giant beetle turned its head toward the ghost and spurted a stream of crackling magical fire. Orowa yelped and zoomed to the ground, to hide behind the trees.
The monster tried to spit another burst of fire, but a jet of liquid shot by MOD_BruJah hit it in its mandibles and turned them to dust. The ball of fire escaped the disintegrating jaws and dispersed in the air harmlessly. The bug decided to crush the intruders with its weight and rushed forward. Everyone aimed their sprayers and fired. It took much more potion to destroy the queen, but ultimately, the creature buckled under the onslaught and exploded in a cloud of smoke.

Without the queen the rest of the beetles became confused and were quickly destroyed. A great feast was prepared to celebrate the victory. It was made in an enormous building that was the pride of the island. Thanks to its ingenious design, it could produce all kinds of resources: bread, flour, brew… and the production could be changed to something else almost immediately!
