Having a 24h notice would really kill the meaning of a 'Hotfix'...
expect hotfixes are meant to help us, not the opposite :)
take a deep breath when those occur and experience the world outside...
I suggest that cooldown when having bought 'Gems' and '1 Day Premium' from merchant will be reduced from current 7d to 6d23h.
Would then be in sync with rest of game: Merchant and buff buildings...

That weapons got removed back in Nov/Dec 2014 was logic as entire weapon economy was broken.
That horsies stayed in loot is a mystery to me.

Introduction of new specialist doesn't justify a 'reskill for free' event as 'old specialists' have been working as wanted/intended.
