I assume your general position is not entirely well placed then? We had over 10 betatesters on this map, and we are using a very popular method from the german forums. It's in a number of guides...

The position as used in our guide is 100% safe and tested. It saves walking too :) But thanks for your alternative position!

This is a good point! Indeed, this game would benefit a lot from the ability to make your island unique. Different color roads, remove forests, add forests, add basic walls etc etc. That could cost...

This is one of the mayor flaws in Settlers. A large part of the buildings are superfluous in this game. Titanium smelter, Damascenesword smith, Xbow smith, the whole cannon chain....
