    Lightbulb Roads and transportation

    Why not give roads a purpouse?

    Can be of different types: ie dirt, gravel, stone... The better the road the faster the transport.

    Could be used on water as well. Boat, ferry, etc.

    Different kinds of bridges could also be used...

    Possible? Meaningful?

    thing is how does each little man know which road he's supposed to be going on...cos as it stands they just zigzag their way along only by accident going on roads?

    They should be forced to use roads when there are any.
    If I´m not misstaken settlers moved the resources from ie a mine to a storehouse and from there to the next work yard, in the old Settlers game in the 90´s?

    One could also assign where to the settler were to move the resourse...

    Yes, this game should be more like the real PC game! Roads should have this ability to speed up transport... for free unlocked by levels.

    I also thought about something. Maybe by upgradeing store houses, instead of just getting more storage capacity they could make travel faster, and that way higher level store houses could support buildings from farther away unlike low level ones.

    If you think about it as a programmer, maybe it can be a problem. Because IMHO settlers do not care about the road at all, because they just move using the shortest route, because they are just animations. The only important thing is the computed time between workyard, deposit and a storehouse. So if you force them to move only within the routes, there may be some problems: How to compute the shortest route? What happens when there is no route to the storehouse or workyard? How to ensure that route leads to a deposit? And so on.

    I personally think, this is a GREAT idea and there is a lot of players, who want this, but I don't think we will ever see this. Pitty ...

    Agree roads should at least speed up transport, afterall this is a Settlers game.

    I could spend hours watching the settlers move stuff along the roads in settlers 2.
    It's the sole reason I love that game. This would make the game look more alive with the increased movement in the map. I know, as a programmer, it'd be hard to include in an already made gamebase, but it would definetly be worth the trouble, even if only cosmetical and not accurate.

    Yes, It would be a cool feature, just I assume it will be difficult to develop.
