Not all camps have to be beaten to finish of a sector, as long as you kill the 'leader' camp.
In sector 6/Chuck - I tried to be clever (note to self - do not try to be clever).
I positioned garrison at the far right of S3/Bottom right, and that made me believe that I had a clear path to Chuck through the little gap in the mountains.
Wrong (for me, at least) - there are 2 bandit camps next to Chuck, the camp to the upper left has influence on Chuck's camp - where a 110 of my cavalry died. I'd rather have lost a bunch of recruits (which I also did loose some of, just a bit later).
So if you - like me, are trying to be clever; send your general out with a lonely recruit and make note of the path. If he get's intercepted - don't waste your 'expensive' guys; send the cannon fodder and save the cavalry for Chuck
I did beat Chuck in the end, though:-)

PS I know that I 'lost' out on the loot by bypassing camps. So far my 'losses' have always been greater than the 'loot'. If you've been lucky enough to experience otherwise - good for you:-) DS
