stone/marble should be upgraded first, because you are gonna need a lot of marble.
All upgrade requires marble, but not hardwood.
it is no upgrades that cost only marble. advanced and expert buildings need marble and coins. and lower cost hardwood and marble. and u dont need lots of marble, coins are often limted and hardwood is the most needed in upgrades.Originally Posted by Jins

I mean, further upgrade require marble the most. Most of the early upgrade require coin + marble or hardwood + marble. And residency upgrade require more marble than hardwood. This is why I am suggesting him to upgrade stone/marble first.
Yeah but most buildings cost more Hardwood than marble, he can get more marble by the time he has enough coins to start upgrading those buildings.
Still both are important off course.

upgrade marble first. u ask why simple too have better marble production you need to up 1 building.
too have better HW production you need at least 3-4 buildings upgraded, and with the bigger amount of marble you can sell it and up HW.
for Marble and HW you will always find a buyer
ive upgraded 2 marmble masons now.. thinking of what's next... i guess it would be nice to increase the sword production, but therefor probably have to start upgrading the fir wood first (then cole, then melters and then weaponsmith?)
One concern I have though; what if my next marmble mine isn't close to the masons? Would be nasty after ive just upgraded them to 'move' them..
I guess you won't have to worry about the marble mine's placement since you can re-discover it right? Or is this only for stone and copper?
so if this just a test server is it worth worrying about upgrades as once all the test are done it shutdown and the game starts and you start from scratch ??

first of all, the server will not reset.
Back to the upgrade question, you need WAY more marble than hardwood to upgrade overall.
Not sure where someone get the idea you need more hardwood = =''
Also, as someone mention above, marble production cost way less building licence. You need like 9 building licence (3 forester, 2 cutter, 4 sawmill) for Hardwood production. Marble production only cost like half of that.
