When you are away, and a friend buffs you, all you know is that "a friend has buffed you", it would be nice to know who-dunnit, so I can say thanks.

im pretty sure that you get mail saying who did it if you are away.....

I've seen an email once (yesterday), but if you are afk, not logged out, then you are pretty much without a hint.
Support, I afk a lot which makes it very hard to know who buffed me and so say thanks.
in that case (for now), you should whisper all the friends online asking them, and then if it was guild ask on guild chat.... if they don't reply it is not your fault as you did try. But im sure they will figure out something to address this issue.

Easiest way? If you are going AFK for a while, just visit another island while you're away. That way you will get mail notification of all buffs.
