I've just tried to demolish a well.

No demolish option - whoops

In a fit of desperation I went for it and tried to knock down a gold smelter - and I couldn't.

Would someone please give me a clue - have I slipped into a parallel universe where building cannot be demolished in TSO or is it something far more complicated?

yw Nuttymut. It seems they left the destruction of wheatfields under the "old way" of demolishing. Yet the wells, you have to go hunt for the tool. Doesn't make any sense, but at least you can build right over top of those without having to demolish.
