Hiya! Many of my friends has stopped playing the game after reaching level 38+, because most of the gaming time was: building exhausted wells and fields. That is not IMHO very good gameplay thinking from developers, that you "force" players to play every day via doing the same compulsory thing over and over again (witch is dead boring). And you have to build every single field and well one by one, and watch it being build so slowly... I'm starting to be frustrated to that too, and 90% of game time is just building wells and fields.
How about you place new button on wells and fields, that function is to "auto-rebuild": It will rebuild the well again when it collapses. Using the autobuild button, it replaces it as many times as the button is "on". Though, using that auto-build, the well/field would cost double (or triple) the resources! So if you want to save resources or are out of them, you can still do it the old fashioned way!
Other option is a new building: Field/well-rebuilder: He's function is to rebuild collapsed wells and fields. He'd use also twice (or triple) the recources and he would take a little time while walking all around the island rebuilding wells and fields (slow, costly, but steady).
Or at least you should have some tool for "build wells / fields to where they have collapsed" -> you wouldn't have to build then one by one. Though they should be taken out of building queue. The one and only thing driving players away, is the frustrating job of field/well re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-construction. If that is fixed, I personally could live with the idiot geologist, who will sit on his ass if not told to go find something. (There has been posts of that: make geologist search copper ore -> he'd search copper ore as long as he is told to do something else)
e: PS. I know the meaning of that field/well/idiot-geologist thing: you want people to play every day for hours, and don't want to automate the game (so it gets too easy). But! Game should not be too monotonious, same thing every day for hours (build a well, wait...wait...wait.... add another well in the building queue....wait....wait....wait....add another well in the building queue....wait ETC. you get the point). The game incredients should be made of the fun things people like to do (Adventures, making troops, making resources etc, new building-construction, new ares to build on etc.) Now you are driving players away, because they see no possibility to advance and gameplay: High levels you have 30-40 farms (upgraded to lvl3-4), and have hundreds of fileds and wells -> that is several hundreds of fields and wells that need to rebuild EVERY single DAY, over and over again).
