Ok, I discovered that I can buy a "solar flare" that takes the snow away, but for some reason I can't buy anything in the market, everything is "grey".
You probably haven't completed the "buy tools for 45 gems" quest yet, finish that and you get the shop back.

I am having exactly the same problem - have buffed a friend 7 times and not a single one registered. Still waiting for a reply from support but in the meantime am missing out on new daily Christmas event quests. This is v frustrating - has anyone else encountered this and worked out if there's any trick to fix it?
Hi drouc, I thought I'd updated my post yesterday but the gremlins must have got it.
In the end I managed to complete it using basket buffs. I didn't get any reply from Support so I don't know if the quest only registers baskets. I tried baskets first, in the morning, but they didn't work. Throughout the day I tried fish platters and sandwiches. It was only when I swapped baskets for the overnight buff that I managed to complete the quest. Hope this helps
Thanks PenguinStare! That worked for me to - I kind of had a suspicion I might need to use aunt irma basket buffs but was reluctant to try it in case it was wasted. Bit annoying as the quest mentions the basket buff as an example rather than a must so is v irksome that had to use all those extra resources when the quest can supposedly be completed using just 50 fish. am telling myself that the "for example" was probably a typo to feel less annoyed! i've not had any word back from support either yet so thanks again for your help
