Many people have already bought the gem pit.
As per the description:
Contains 40,000 Gems
Produces 20,000 Gems over the course of 6 months
Will not be refunded when demolished
If at first you don't succeed, sky-diving is not for you.
And you can find all that information in the ingame description... clicking on an item in the gemshop doesn't automatically buy it, it takes you to a new screen with more info and a buy button.
The descriptions in the Merchant can be somewhat lacking at times. (The Cheese Sandwich does *what* now?)
More information on the Gem Pit can be found here:

Google Translate makes it clear enough.
(For a cost of 50 gems The Cheese Sandwich gives 6 Settlers in ten minutes. Once.)
I have seen people with gem mines. They look good.
Settling isn't just for fun
[ Censored ] , dunno dudes ....seems to me a waste of money
buy a gem pit cost as 2 PC GAMES , not to mention that you gotta waste the 20.000 gems to buy something that gives em back to you in 6month ....and will not last more then the time
needed to slow refound your investment.
in my opinion either u buy 3 pit , or it's not worth at all, and dudes, we talking about 300 euro .....
damn
Unfortunately we have to stay PEGI 7 in here, as much as it was borderline I have had to censor
Thanks,

This has been covered in multiple threads.
Yes it is expensive. (so go play other computer games? lol)
You can reduce the cost by buying gems on happy hour for +100% extra gems.
Many say gems are not necessary to reach 'end-game' with level and economy.
However, you can only get certain items from get shop by buying them with gems yourself (Vet General, Building licenses, etc)
Used wisely, you can turn your gems into great profit multiple ways. But it's up to you how seriously you want to take this game. If you're willing to invest hours a day here, why not spend the cash and really get a head start?

As stated above, plus more info:
GEM PIT = 20k gems to buy
- Produces 40,000 gems over 1 year.
- 1 Gem every 13 mins delivered to nearest Storage.
- 109 Gems per day
- Cannot be buffed
- Maximum of 5 can be bought from Gem Trader.
- 20k gems bought at normal gem price on best value deal = 83 EUR
- 20k gems bought during happy hour +100% gems on best value deal = 42 EUR?
So 5 Gem Pits produce 109 each a day = 545 gems / day max. And 200,000 gems total produced over minimum of 1 year.
Hope those numbers help.
