I had a look and did not see any other suggestions like this.

Would it be possible to be able to set how many of an item you want to produce. Maybe have a new building, Production Manager which you can then upgrade using normal building resources.

Level 1 = Control of Basic item production
Level 2 = Control of Intermediate item production
Level 3 = Control of Advanced item production
Level 4 = Control of Expert item production
Level 5 = Control of Military item production

Within the view you get a list of items similar to the Town Hall view with the same tabs. As you select an item you can then specify the max amount of that item you want to produce. When you reach that level any buildings producing that item will then be set to stop production. When the level drops below that limit they are then set to start producing the item again.

Essentially the game will function as normal; you just have the ability to manually override the storage max figure for individual items. This way you can fine tune your production instead of manually stopping and starting buildings to maintain a level of stock as the only other option seems to be to let it hit your storage max.
