There's no need for an opt out, the quest lives at the bottom of your quest book nice and out of the way, and there's no reward for doing it. You can simply ignore if you don't like it.
The only possible way that it can cause you anything resembling a problem is if a collectible is in the way of a building you're going to place. But in that case presumably the item is way out in the open, and you may as well spend that one click to remove it.
So far I'm still totally happy with them. Thus far I've found that for me over half of them are fairly clearly visible, and the few minutes spent looking for them is fairly entertaining while I wait for mines to rebuild.
Agree with Ammy75. Very hard to ignore when you try to get into your mayor's house, and nothing happens. Tried again, same result. Finally realized I clicked a collectable in the middle of my mayor's house. Same goes for barracks, provision house etc.
Ditto. We're also having a lot of fun in guild helping each other out.
I found RonPope's tips very helpful for finding the ones obscured by trees or buildings, as well as zooming all the way in. If I still have any left after that, I zoom all the way out and run my mouse over the rocks.

Hi, what is the rate you get to find cauldrons in adventures? I am already on my third adventure in a row where I get no cauldrons...
