[Dev Diary] More space on your home island

More information about upcoming feature: Removing rubbles, rocks and mountains from home island!

    Dear Settlers,

Did you notice that there are a lot of rubbles, rocks and mountains on your home islands? What if we tell you that it will be possible to remove some of them? Great idea, isn't it? A perfect way to acquire additional building space on a home island!

After the game was enriched with new buildings related to the Science System, many players suggested that more space should be added to home islands. We know that further expansion of your settlements is very important, hence we decided to provide you a possibility to gain additional space.

With the help of 3 special buffs that will be implemented to the game with one of the next updates, you will be able to remove many rubbles, rocks and mountains from your home island. This will allow you to gain advantages of spots on your home island that were not accessible so far! More information about 3 new buffs is available below.

During one of the next game updates, 3 new buffs will be implemented to the game: Powdertinker, Shotfirer and Demolition crew! They will allow you to free some space that is currently occupied by rubbles, rocks and mountains. This way you can get additional space in order to have more objects placed on your home island.

    Name: Powdertinker
A former cannoneer who even in retirement,
follows his passion related to explosive materials.
He can help you with removing rubbles from your home island.

    Name: Shotfirer
His ancestors - although short-lived - have passed him
important knowledge about the art of wrecking stuff.
He can help you with removing rocks from your home island.

    Name: Demolition crew
A crew of serious-looking gentlemen with an unsettling
appetite for fire and destruction and proper equipment.
They can help you with removing mountains from your home island.

As mentioned above, there will be three different kinds of experts that can help you with cleaning up your home island from stones.
With the game update, three different sizes of rocks will be introduced to the game: rubbles (small), rocks (medium) and mountains (large). These will comprise of 5 different types of rock shapes.

    A few examples (3 of 5):

Each type of rocks require a help of an appropriate expert.

    Additional information:
In order to make sure that every mountain you remove provides you with the appropriate amount of additional space, small adjustments of rocks' placement on home island will take place. Please also keep in mind that only certain rocks will be removable, not all of them.

If you can count on help from correct experts, it is pretty easy to remove rocks from your home island. Powdertinker, Shotfirer and Demolition crew buffs can be acquired not only by finishing several quests, but also from the in-game Shop ("Black market" category).

First, you need to find some rocks on your home island that can be removed. There are 3 types of rocks you can remove: Rubble, Rocks and Mountain. Let's say you found a Mountain that you would like to remove:

Now you need to find the appropriate buff in the star menu (in case of Mountain you need a Demolition crew buff). Just click on the buff and activate it on respective object (e.g. Mountain). That's how it looks like:

Activation of the buff will send respective experts to highlighted place. The bigger the mountain is, the longer you need to wait for your experts to proceed. The remaining time will be displayed above the rocks that you are about to remove:

The crew responsible for removing rocks from your home island will let you know when they are ready to proceed. This will be indicated with a special symbol floating above respective rocks. It will look like this:

Removing rocks without an explosion? Not possible! After you confirm the detonation (by clicking on the rocks), an explosion will follow:

And all this leads to... MORE SPACE ON YOUR HOME ISLAND!

Please keep in mind that this summary refers to the current status of the feature. The final version may differ.

    Happy settling!

    Addendum

    Dear Settlers,

First of all: Thank you for the participation in both load tests for the mountain buff feature on tsotesting.com.

The community challenged the servers very well. This helped a lot to gather useful data.
As a result our developer team found out optimizations that will be implemented before the feature goes live.
Hence, it will take a little bit until the features will be available for live game worlds.

In parallel there's more new stuff in development.

Check out our latest developer's diary.
Amongst others it describes a new feature to save island space as well:
    The new Epic Workyards.

    Happy Settling
