    [application]The settlers adventure guide Helper

    Hello everyone.

Forgive me for my probably bad (terrible) english.

I'm an italian user coming from the (obviously) italian the settlers online community.

Apart from this little and probably not really significant presentation, I've always enjoyed every guide available which I was easily able to read and understand from this forum.

More precisely, I found really useful every guide posted by Killste and Tage and the whole italian community is, from my point of view, really enjoying the hard work that everyone is putting on those guides.

However, something that is missing (particularly for foreign people, such as italians) are some images that will show what kind of troup you're going to face.

This is, obviously, for some reasons, quite "useless", since you will never care about the kind of troup you're going to face but rather on the kind of troup you need to use to face it, but it will be, in my hopinion, a really good way to be able to find a path for every language, using the picture instead of the name of the bandit to make clear that the enemy you're going to face is going to have, for example, 30 scavengers and 1 sir robin.

Since taking every guide and inserting images was a quite long and (in my humble opinion) annoying work, I thought that a possible solution would have been making something able to do that for us.

That's why I've made a little script that, from the guide itself, will insert the images into it and will return it ready to be posted on the forum.

    Example:

Assuming we are going to face a bandit camp with: 95 scavengers, in the guide we will be used to write:

    95 Scavengers
Parsing 95 Scavengers into the application will, however, drop this:

    95
    .

This kind of job would need to user to upload the image, take the link to share it, insert the image into the forum and, finally post it.

Now, I know this is a quite "useless" application, but it still is a way to, in my opinion, increase the quality of the guides which are, already, insaningly amazing.

    Another example of conversion:

    The raw text:

For the first three attacks, only your best general is needed:

    Camp 1) 100 Thugs, 60 Rangers
    ANY general: [107R 72C 21LB (77R - 91R - 107R)]
    ANY general: [100R 4S 70C 26LB (75R - 90R - 100R 3S)]
    ANY general: [100R 4S 70C 26XB (75R - 90R - 100R 3S)]
    ANY general: [99R 1E 70C 30K (73R - 85R - 99R)]
    VETERAN general: [77R 2S 119C 52LB (57R - 67R - 77R 1S)]
    VETERAN general: [77R 2S 119C 52XB (57R - 67R - 77R 1S)]
    VETERAN general: [75R 1E 134C 40K (55R - 65R - 75R)]

Camps 2 and 3 can be attacked in any order:

    Camp 2) 60 Thugs, 100 Rangers
    ANY general: [57R 122C 21LB (35R - 44R - 56R)]
    ANY general: [48R 5S 125C 22LB (35R - 43R - 48R 4S)]
    ANY general: [48R 5S 125C 22XB (35R - 43R - 48R 4S)]
    VETERAN general: [39R 2S 209C (27R - 34R - 39R 1S)]

    Camp 3) 40 Thugs, 40 Roughnecks, 80 Rangers
    ANY general: [97R 94C 9LB (65R - 78R - 96R)]
    ANY general: [76R 6S 97C 21LB (63R - 73R - 76R 5S)]
    ANY general: [75R 5S 94C 26XB (56R - 69R - 75R 4S)]
    ANY general: [73R 3S 1E 93C 30K (54R - 66R - 73R 3S)]
    VETERAN general: [63R 2S 116C 69LB (45R - 56R - 63R 1S)]
    VETERAN general: [60R 2S 148C 40XB (43R - 52R - 60R 1S)]
    VETERAN general: [60R 1E 154C 35K (43R - 51R - 60R)]
taken from http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/t...l=1#post193188, will be converted into this:

    Camp 1) 100 , 60
    ANY general: [107R 72C 21LB (77R - 91R - 107R)]
    ANY general: [100R 4S 70C 26LB (75R - 90R - 100R 3S)]

If we want, for example, to insert the images in the WHOLE guide, the author just needs to "edit" it, copy the whole text, paste it into the software and let the software do it's job!

This little script is however still in a "beta" version (since I've made it NOW in less than 15 minutes) but, since it does it's job quite well, feel free to give it a try (please note that not all bandits have been inserted yet. I had no time to do that, so I will probably do that tomorrow or saturday night).

Since there is no spoiler option, the link to the software is there (I hope that pasting links to external sites is not an abuse here. I just need something to put the files online, that's why I'm using an hyperlink): http://settlers.briosheje.net/

    Source codes are available here:

    http://pastie.org/8393499 --> index.htm
    http://pastie.org/8393500 --> style.css
    http://pastie.org/8393501 --> script.js
    http://pastie.org/8393502 --> classes.js

Much can still be done and I'm hoping to be able to:

    1) insert every unit.
    2) insert every PLAYER troup (recruits, crossbowmen and so on).
    3) something else, ideas are welcome.

Please give me some feedback if you're interested in this.

Hoping that will be interesting for someone, please let me give a huge THANKS to the whole community and to the developpers who are just making this game an incredible experience :].

    Regards

    ßriosheje.

Nice work, someone might offer you a job.

I would just say add the pictures after the bandit name instead of replacing the bandit name, and maybe make the pictures smaller.

(Not sure why 'pictures' Google-translated into 'foto' and 'immagini'...)

    Hello Hairy,

    English only please .

    Hello Hairy,

    English only please .

    Sinister-King
Thanks, 'foto' and 'immagini' actually means the same thing, even though 'immagini' is much more comparable to "image" rather than "picture" :P (generally, 'foto' is often used as the english "photo", like a picture taken from a device, while an "image" or "picture", made somewhere, for example, is an "immagine")

Anyway, I will work on that too, I think it shouldn't be a problem matching the number before the element, I'm actually trying to do that with the "1R", "15LB" and so on.

About the picture: is there any place where I can find smaller pictures? I'm quite surprised that even in the fankit there are no small pictures of the bandits!

    ---- edit

And, of course, when it's getting late I don't understand questions. Of course it's pretty easy to keep the bandit name, I'll do that with the next release :P

    --update--

I have now implemented the possibility to put also the icons of the player's troups.

    Example:

    Tage's guide on outlaws:

    Two NORMAL generals no blocks
    Units needed, average: 1851R 178C 180LB (2209 units)
    Units needed, maximum: 2062R 178C 180LB (2420 units)
    Units lost, minimum: 1636R
    Units lost, average: 1841R
    Units lost, maximum: 2062R 8M 5C
    Becomes this:

    Two NORMAL generals no blocks
    Units needed, average: 1851 178 180 (2209 units)
    Units needed, maximum: 2062 178 180 (2420 units)
    Units lost, minimum: 1636
    Units lost, average: 1841
    Units lost, maximum: 2062 8 5
If someone eventually knows where to get smaller icons for the bandits, please contact me.

software available at the same addres: http://settlers.briosheje.net
