What ranged units?
ranged support, weak point potion and catapults
There is no sim as far as i know. Weak point potion is very useful as it kills an entire unit type. Pretty useful for leader campsThe catapults are totally useless...
Ranged support is kinda of a mix... not really useful as it kills ONLY a few enemies (both the weak point potion and ranged support got crippled btw). It could come handy when the camp has only leaders left in it...

catapults are good for use in pirates only use i found , leaves 3 camps that need to be attacked and 1 trap makes it quicker to do them
They aren't too shabby in Sons either, knock out a couple of camps that need blocking multiple times, or ones that are really dodgy with lag.

It was good while it lasted.
I've found the best use of catapults is taking a camp out quickly if a block starts to go wrong
Catapults are also great on a couple of camps in Return to bandits nest
try ranged support in DB to kill dd's in WT, saves a lot of cav.
