I have been saying this for a year, The should have a system where you can make a priority list of you friends (like officers in a guild) who are essential admins that can perform certain extra tasks :

Stop/Start Buildings so if you need something stopped like a gold mine or rebuilt they can do it

    Sending Geo's out

AND begin able to add a book to the book binder and add a glue.

the only solution is to give someone your password so they can essentially log on for you which isn't the best idea, even if you know that person very well.

The key problem here is we don't have access about a players economy to be able to make intelligent decisions about what they need done to keep their island running. When PvP comes in that information is not something you want other players having access to, it would be a grave mistake for BB grant that sort of access to this information.
When it comes to Gene pools and shallow ends they can be found at the bar drinking pina colada's

Sounds interesting, also what about when you are visiting a friends island, you could put a tag marker down . ie when assisting in looking for collectables.

There have been "holiday caretaker" threads before, so it is obviously an on-going issue. My thinking is that the person going away would nominate a person on their friends list to specifically do set tasks. These tasks would be allowed or not by a series of tick boxes- so if the caretaker was allowed to build copper mines, that box would be ticked, etc. It should include the basics like well and field building, using the caretaker's own geos or explorers to find things, etc. Rebuilding would use the player's own resources- perhaps a max number set for that too would work. So rebuilding could be done up to a expenditure of 2000 marble, for example. No upgrading or use of TO, no access to the player's star menu. Lots of variables, of course, but it's an idea.
