    [Guide] Adventure Classifications, Categories and Types

    or

    Experience, Resource, Epic, Follow-up and other Adventures uncovered.

    Many quests require a certain sort of Adventure be completed and it's not always clear which Adventure counts for which quest.

    If a quest asks you to "Experience 1 Adventure" or "Complete 2 Adventures" any Adv will do.

    If the quest asks you to "Complete 1 Experience Adventure" or "Complete 1 Resource Adventure" you must do precisely the right type of Adventure in order to satisfy the requirement.

    • • •Update• • •

    With the update of 25th November 2014 a lot changed, happily BB have made some of the confusing bits a little clearer. "Epic Raids" for example are now called "Fairytales" in the merchant and the star menu.

    The old rosettes, eggs, and footballs are now icons showing "type":

    Star = Experience

    Crate of Stuff = Resource

    Sword on Shield = Epic

    Arrow = Follow-up

    Crown = Fairytale

    Magnifying Glass = Mini

    Two People = Cooperative (Co-ops used to also be "Experience" but no longer.)

    Ribbon = Event

    The colours in-game have also been adjusted and should now be a better, though still not perfect, indication of difficulty.

    Beige/Tan = Easier
    Green = Mid to Harder (Keep in mind also the level requirement. SotV is still green, and *not* suited to lower levels.)
    Blue = Hard
    Purple = Very hard.

    How to check Adventure "type":

    • • •Update• • •

    "Type" is shown both by the small icons which have replaced the rosettes, eggs, and footballs on the Adventures and in the adventure Details.

    Star = Experience

    Crate of Stuff = Resource

    Sword on Shield = Epic

    Arrow = Follow-up

    Crown = Fairytale

    Magnifying Glass = Mini

    Two People = Cooperative (Co-ops used to also be "Experience" but no longer.)

    Old info:
    Many of the old standbys are were straightforward once you know where to look.

    Spoiler
    Mouse over each Adventure in the Merchant:

    If you own the Adventure you can also click it in the Star menu:

    Do be careful not to start it unless you really mean to. If you're just checking the information click the x in the upper right corner or [Cancel] and the Adventure will return to your Star menu.

    2013.12.18 Updated 'Follow-up' Thanks YANIZ and corona88 who posted a snip from the Test server elsewhere.
    2013.12.18 Updated post #1 with info on 'rosettes'. Many thanks to Paula_Ravenhawk for asking and Jamdoggy and SmurfAsh for contributing to a much needed explanation.
    2014.05.10 Mashed in quick and belated Rosette update.
    2014.15.12 Tried to make some sense of whatever BB have done to the so recently fixed-to-be-sensible icons. Thanks especially to corona88 for finding and posting Nords 2 and Traitors.

    MSE or RTBN, or both are follow-up adventures... I played them on testing and they completed quest to do follow-up adventures.

    To further confuse us the colour of the poker chip/flower in the corner used to help with classifications. It was my understanding that the "Epic" adventures (Black Knights, Roaring Bull and Dark Brotherhood) were easily identifiable by the purple colour in the corner. However, if Secluded Experiments is indeed an "Epic" adventure, then this is no longer the case as it has a Blue icon in the corner (and the Tailor adventures all having the same Purple colour as the Epics further confuses that).

    Sorry Paula, the rosette colour in the corner has never shown the adventure type. SE has always been Epic, and always been Blue.

    It is more a guide to the level you should be before attempting it. For example, the purple ones really need a Veteran/Major with Cannoneers, and therefore it is inadvisable to do these before level 48 (when Cannons can be constructed). Blue ones really need Elite Soldiers to minimise losses, and therefore should be attempted after Level 41. Green are helped enormously by Crossbows, at level 36.

    Of course, some adventures can only be purchased (in the Merchant Chest) when you reach a certain level, and your explorer for example, won't find Blue adventures before level 42, because you can't do Long adventure searches before then.

    It is possible though, to be invited to ANY adventure, regardless of level (unless that's been fixed and I didn't know), but you can only build a Barracks and train Recruits from level 15, so being invited to an adventure before then is pointless...

    BTW: Awesome thread Iolanthe!

    The label colour do indicate the "difficulty" (http://forum.thesettlersonline.com/t...-to-Adventure!), though some green "medium" are a lot easier than the almond "easy" (compare Lost Skulls and Tropical Sun with Stealing From The Rich); while there are a purple you can easily do at 42, but still have to struggle some when doing a green at 48 (compare The Black Knights with Sons of the Veld).

    Also, you may find some blue advs in medium searches.. (http://www.settlersonlinewiki.eu/guides/explorer/)

    Cheers YANIZ! I haven't had time to check much on the Test server lately but here's hoping BB update/have updated the visible details in the Adventure info to show that clearly.

    Regarding the rosettes/poker chips/flowers/confusing coloured thingies in the corners:

    Update re rosettes: BB's original intention was to use the colours (initially gold, silver and bronze) as nothing more than a guide to availability, with the arrival of the Achievement System on the test server this has been confirmed. Beige = "Normal", Green = Uncommon, Blue = Rare, and Purple = a separate category called "Epic". This is not entirely the same as as the "Epic" required by other quests and applies only to the Achievement System requirement to complete BK, DB, and RB "at least once."

    I'll try to untangle this new knot and make it a bit clearer as time allows.

    While they may have originally been intended to show difficulty/level, For a long time the colours showed difficulty tolerably well though not at all perfectly but when Lost Skull and Tropical Sun came in that pretty much went completely out the window. Put bluntly, at this point they are so muddled (especially *green*) they don't really seem to say much about difficulty at all. Taken as a very rough and limited guide:

    Beige = Very Easy (example: The beige Anniversary "Adventures" that are nothing more than 'seek and find' and more realistically, the tutorial Bounty Hunter) to Medium (example: Stealing From the Rich)
    Green = Easy (example: Lost Skull) to Hard (example: Sons of the Veld)
    Blue = Hard (example: Nords) to Very Hard (example: Secluded Experiments)
    Purple = Hard (example: Black Knights) to Eep! o.o (example: Fairytales)

    But even in that there is a lot of overlap, especially noticable in SotV and SE. So while there really is no tidy way to summarize the rosettes when taken all together Jamdoggy's and SmurfAsH's posts just above and, it is hoped, this one do give the general idea.
