People who make guides do so voluntarily. I would imagine their first priority is to make a guide that suits themselves. People who have the skill and the interest to create guides will most likely be advanced players, thus the guides will suit advanced players.

I have a Major general and cannoneers. If I were to make a guide, what interest would I have in making a guide for normal gen and longbows?

ps: The combat system of this game is not at all difficult. You should check your battle reports after combat. You will be making your own guides in no time.

You can also check out Tage's guides (in the Killste adventure thread). He provides a wide range of setups for different troop types including lower level troops only like Cavalry and Longbows. Of course the losses will be much greater, but you have to start somewhere!

To do adventures, you have to be at least level 26, which means that Soldiers are probably your best troops (which you get at Lv 27).

Admittedly it's then a big gap to the next troop types:
    Crossbowmen - Level 36
    Elite Soldiers - Level 41
    Cannoneers - Level 48

Unfortunately, the majority of players who write the guides on these forums are the kinds of people who work hard at the game, and do a lot of adventures. As such, they are generally already at Level 50, and so have these extra troops.

Some guide writers, however, do try to make a guide that suits all players. As Fearless_Frack said, Tage's guides, in Killste's thread do cover almost any troop type. There are some camps in some adventures, however, where it is simply impossible to attack the camp without those tougher troops. I can think of a few examples, where sending 200R will result in 200R losses, and no damage to the bandit camp at all!

There are lots of guides on the Wiki, which have been designed for new players. As such, they will usually have the information you are looking for, and won't require any blocking.

Sidv's adventure journal still works as a guide for those without Veteran generals. Just make sure you use it as a guide and not as a walkthrough because a lot of the pathing has been changed since then.
