Question n00b question about attacking with waves

Hello everyone, I'm a new player, level 27, just starting to get to bandit camps that can't be defeated in 1 wave. I've read the combat guide here, and have played around with some of the simulators, but before I start killing off all my troops, wanted to understand a bit more about waves -- and whether or not I need to have 2 generals attack in quick succession to pull off these camps, or can I send a general, wait 4 hours or more, then send the 2nd wave? Do bandits slowly regenerate?
    thanks!

There is no benefit for sending waves in quick succession for single camps

So you can slowly pick them apart when you have troops available for each individual wave.
