I did a lootspot earlier and noticed that it's 8 hours for the invite to expire. That should be 5 minutes by default with the option to have it be longer. If they can't accept within 5 minutes you should be able to invite someone else. You might want to send an invite to a friend overnight for them to do it in the morning, so give the option to extend it, but "normal" should be 5 minutes to accept.
I think the invite should be endless with the option of the person who sent the invite to cancel at any time they wish. Don't have to worry about any time then, you send invite after 2 mins you decide you didn't want to invite them you simply click cancel invite and invite someone else.
As it's bugging to last way longer than 8 hours (til then the invited player's come back from being offline) I think this would be great.
..or PChamps suggestion, but might be tricky to code unless we think it's ok to throw up error messages - would be some invalid invitations in mailbox.. =)
