Unfortunately, as it stands, the Magnificient Residence was broken from the day of release in the sense that it was always the most expensive, albeit not the most useful residence in the game.
You yourself know why you don't prefer to own any MR over FM, and that reason is because it's broken.
Broken content deserves a fix, regardless of whether fix in the direction of nerf (WPP) or boost(what I suggest here).

The upgrade wouldn't affect anyone who has invested heavily into FM's and is happy with their current population count.
It would only affect those who wish to ultimately upgrade their islands, and for 30k+ beans invested, it would make a difference of merely 240 Settlers!

If a building gets upgrade options, that's a very limited change.
So what if MR would be the best pop building for a while (til FM gets upgrade options).. To me it seems like the biggest reluctance to such change are from "bigtime traders"..

i dont see the issue the MR is a buy-able structure like the nobles and there upgradable ..the FM like the WT.WC etc are dropped so are not upgradable

But you can't rip off people for like 20-50% value of an item if everyone can get one for 15k beans anytime in any quantity, lol!

Except that those who are afraid that their trading scheme will go down the drain seem to forget that there will be 3 trade items they can use to replace their current scheme:
Beans, Stalks as well as Rainbow Snow will be in significantly higher demand than right now
