I think that if you stick with the game you will eventually want an absolute minimum of 10k/12h production. Cephalad's idea of clusters isn't for me. He uses 1 field to support each 6 farms. In this setup I have double that. This is using normal Silos. If I got some improved ones then I could swap out 12 Silos for 6 new ones plus 6 more farms. So I would have 20 farms sharing one field. The space saved compared with Celephad's approach more than makes up for the slightly lower production.

I would advise that you don't worry about working out the theoretical balance too much - just monitor how the field depletes. In my set up some farms and silos have further to walk so are less efficient. If I were doing it again I would place the silos in the best positions and make the farmers walk further. This is because silos are more expensive to buy and upgrade and to offset the issue that Fexno described.

My one tip on farm optimization is to have all your farming clusters near each other. ie Not spread out across the island.

This allows silos to help neighboring clusters when they themselves get full. If the neighboring cluster is close by this works great. If it isnt then what happens is that your silo men set off on a massive lap around your whole island which is to the detriment of their local cluster they are supposed to be maintaining.

I find if you have the storehouses full of wheat and are using less than you're making the fields last forever, but why have so many fields? If you want to save space use say 12 farms per field
The goal here is low maintenance farms. That's why people design clusters where the wheat loss and foot print is as small as possible. If you can design a 12 farm cluster with one field, improved silos, and less than 45 wheat loss per 12h, then I'm all ears

I'm pretty sure you'd have a substantial wheat loss per 12h in that single field using an 18 farm/6 imp silo setup. Improved silos work three times faster, so walking time is multiplied by three making the silos not able to keep up with the farms production rate.

The goal here is low maintenance clusters where you can go on vacation for 3 weeks and come back to farms and silos that are still running

You're the second guy posting "I'll just do this to make it better" without backing it up by calculations or an example that has been proven to run. I'll believe the setup when I see it, and it won't take me long to change my island accordingly if your solution is better!
