    [Dev Diary] Halloween Event 2014

Halloween 2014: More information about the upcoming event - Halloween 2014.

It's time for Zombies and Pumpkins again: The Settlers Online Halloween Event is getting closer and closer!
The event will be activated in October and it will include many features from previous years along with new content.
    Start: 14th of October
Removal phase 1: 4th of November
Removal phase 2: 11th of November

During the Halloween event, several possibilities to acquire the event resource - Pumpkins - will be added to the game. The event resource can be traded and is displayed in the "Event" tab in storehouses like all other resources. As all event resources, Pumpkins can be used in a special event Shop category which will be available in game for a limited time (from the start of the event until Removal phase 2).

The special Shop category will feature well known items from previous years together with new content like the Fish Farm!
More information about respective items can be found below.

Pumpkins can be obtained in the following ways:
    • As a Collectible Item on the home island
    • As reward for defeating the Golem
    • By completing Halloween Quests
    • From a Pumpkin Cemetery
    • Through the trade system
    • As gifts from friends
    • From the shop

Information about Pumpkin drops in adventures before Halloween Removal Phase 1

Pumpkins may be part of the reward when finishing one of the following adventures:
    • The Invasion of the Nords, Wild Mary, Gunpowder, Sleepy Reef, The Sleeping Volcano, Pirate Life
    • The Buccaneer Roundup, The Siege, Raiding The Raiders, Whirlwind, Lakeside Treasure
    • The Nords, Stealing From The Rich, More Secluded Experiments, Return to the Bandit Nest
    • Tomb Raiders, The Black Knights, Motherly Love
    • The Clever Little Tailor, The Heroic Little Tailor, The Island Of The Pirates
Pumpkins can be gained from many adventures which have an event resource drop chance. This means that once you completed one of these adventures during the Halloween Event, you have a chance to get additional Pumpkins as a reward.

During the 2014 Halloween Event, every player receives a mighty Halloween Golem. The Golem will appear at the lake at the centre of the home island. Game worlds will not compete with each other and there will be no competition amongst players this year.

There will be 3 types of Golems appearing in the middle of the island, depending on the player level:
    • Rock Golem (Level 1* - 25)
    • Greater Golem (Level 26 - 35)
    • Ancient Golem (Level 36 - 50)
*: The middle of the island must have been explored in order to see the Golem. Level 19 is required to fight the Golem.
A new Golem spawns one day after the last one was defeated. For the first 4 respawns, the Golem difficulty level will increase.
The new Golem type depends on the player level at the time it starts to be "built".

Each Golem type is more difficult to defeat. It can be destroyed by using a specific buff.

the buff will last much longer!

Non-player character: Eliot, the Pumpkin Master
The Halloween event without Eliot, the Pumpkin Master? No way!
During the in-game event, he will assign you several quests.

    Pumpkins on the home island?
Halloween is a special time of the year: Pumpkins will start to grow on your home island!
If you manage to spot a Pumpkin in your settlement, just click on it! Perhaps it will provide you additional Pumpkins (event resource).

    Zombies on the home island?!
During the Halloween event, all animals will hide in forests and bushes. Instead, you will be able to spot a lot of zombies lurching around on your home island! But don't worry! Eliot, the Pumpkin Master, is responsible for them: He promised that they won’t destroy anything!

    Graphics & Sound
    • Halloween background music
During the Halloween event, the in-game background music will be changed to different tracks.
    • Modification of several graphics
Several graphics will be modified, for example the logo and the loading screen.

During the event, Grout can be obtained. This special resource allows you to upgrade certain buildings from level 5 to 6!
Two additional buildings can be upgraded to level 6: Mill and Bakery.

With the maintenance on the 4th of November the Halloween event will enter Removal phase 1.
This brief FAQ will provide you with some detailed information about that phase.

    • What does Removal phase 1 basically mean?
The core mechanisms of the event will be turned off, but the event shop category will remain until Removal phase 2 on the 11th of November. This means you have one additional week to get special event items for Pumpkins. The Pumpkins (event resources) are shown in your storage any time, even after removal phase 2.
    • Can I still collect Pumpkins in Removal phase 1?
Pumpkins that spawned before the maintenance can still be collected. However, after the collectible items are newly refreshed in Removal phase 1, no new Pumpkins will spawn.
    • What happens to Halloween Quests that are not finished?
The event quest chains will be cancelled.
    • When will Pumpkins not be part of the (special) adventure loot anymore?
Is the start or the end time of the adventure crucial
      ?
If the adventure was finished during Removal Phase 1 (after maintenance) and started before, no Pumpkins will be included in the loot. Adventures started in or after Removal Phase 1 don't provide Pumpkins.
    • Is it possible to create event items?
The creation of "Banshee's Scream" and "Werewolf's Howl" (as well as the Golem buffs) are related to the Halloween event. Therefore this option will be turned off. If you started to produce an event item shortly before the Removal phase 1 maintenance, this item will be finished even after Removal phase 1. Same goes for completed items: You can still pick them up after Removal phase 1.
    • What happens to the Golem buffs in my Star Menu?
The production resources will be refunded and the buffs removed. Running productions will be completed (in the allotted time) and the buffs will be refunded as soon as they are transferred to the Star menu.
    • Is it possible to use items like the "Banshee's Scream" buff after Removal phase 1?
Yes, you can still use the buff in order to get more Pumpkins as they are shown in your storage the entire year.

Please feel free to leave your feedback here.

    Happy settling!

Halloween Golem 2014 - More information

    Dear Settlers,

some questions regarding the Golem and its difficulty levels were raised.
Also, the level ranges that determine the Golem type a player receives have been updated.

This brief FAQ should answer the most pressing questions:

    • Which Golem type do I have to fight?
There are 3 Golem types available: Rock Golem, Greater Golem and Ancient Golem.
Players of level 19 - 25 will have to fight Rock Golems only.
Players of level 26 - 35 will have to defeat 5 Rock Golems before the Greater Golem spawns.
Players of level 36 - 50 will have to defeat 5 Rock Golems and 5 Greater Golems
      before the Ancient Golem spawns.
    • What are the level requirements for each Golem type?
To fight the Rock Golem, level 19+ is required.
To fight the Greater Golem, level 26+ is required.
To fight the Ancient Golem, level 36+ is required.
    • How many Golems must I fight?
You can fight as many Golems as you like. However, the difficulty increases with each Golem.
A new Golem spawns one day after the last one was defeated.
For the first 4 respawns the Golem difficulty will increase.
The 5th Golem of each type is the most difficult one.
    • When does the next Golem type spawn?
The Golem type depends on 2 factors:
The player level and the amount of Golems that were defeated. Examples:
A player of level 35 must defeat 5 Rock Golems before the first Greater Golem will spawn.
After level 36 is achieved, the Ancient Golem will spawn after at least 5 Rock Golems and 5 Greater Golems are defeated (in total).
    Happy Settling!

    Update Fish Farm

    Name: Fish Farm

A scientific state-of-the-art fish farm: Doesn't require a deposit to produce fresh fish.
Stink free production of Fish without using any other resources.
Each player will be able to purchase 3 buildings of this type.

Because of a misconfiguration, the Fish Farm can be traded and uses one building license.
Limited buildings should not be tradeable. Also, buildings from the Shop aren't supposed to use up building licenses.
Therefore, these issues will be fixed with the next maintenance.

    Happy Halloween!
