[Dev Diary] Progression System and Rankings for PvP

PvP Progression System and Rankings - Dev Diary about the next big update for PvP Expeditions

    Dear Settlers!

With the upcoming game version the Progression System and
Rankings for Expeditions are going to become available. The new version will be deployed on

    June 23rd 2015.

Let's have a closer look at this huge update for PvP!

For the first time ever in "The Settlers Online", permanent rankings will become available.
The rankings can be found on the website. They are recalculated every few minutes and reset monthly.
An archive of past months will be available. The rankings will be provided for each game world and world wide instances.
    • The ranking page always shows the top 10
    • Past months are archived and can be accessed with the and buttons below the table
    • The viewing player's rank and the player one rank above / below are also shown
    • Only PvP battles will be taken into calculation
    • Only Tier 3 Colonies will be counted towards ranking (More details on the colony Tiers: Progression System)

The PvP Ranking can be accessed through the website ("Ranking" button) or via the menu bar in the game:

Hidden by menu: "Efficiency" and "Defeated units"
The three ranking types are calculated based on several factors:

    Average time per Map size
Indicates how fast Expeditions were finished on average. There will be one time ranking per map size.

    Requirements
A minimum of 5 played Expeditions, Colony Tier 3. If a player falls to Tier 2, the ranking entry will not be removed.
Your ranking will not be updated until Tier 3 has been reached again.

    Important:
    • This will list the average time needed for all expeditions 1 user plays
    • If two players have the same time, the player with more played expeditions will be ranked higher
    • The maximum amount of time being considered is 3 hours, even if an Expedition took more time
    • If an Expedition was cancelled, it will count as a 3 hour completion

    Time (fastest)
Shows how fast expeditions were finished. There will be one time ranking per map size.

    Requirements
Colony Tier 3. If a player falls to Tier 2, the ranking entry will not be removed.
Your ranking will not be updated until Tier 3 has been reached again.

    Important:
    • The displayed time shows the fastest Expedition finished by a player
    • If two players have the same fastest time, the player with more Expeditions will be ranked higher

Efficiency (won / lost unit ratio)
This rank shows the efficiency of defeating enemy units

    Requirements
Minimum 1000 enemy units defeated, Colony Tier 3. If a player falls to Tier 2, the ranking entry will not be removed.
Your ranking will not be updated until Tier 3 has been reached again.

    Important:
    • The amount of defeated enemy units is divided by the amount of units lost by the player
    • Only fights from won Expeditions are taken into account
    • If two players have the same ratio, the player with the highest amount of defeated enemy units will be ranked higher.

Please feel free to leave your feedback here.

    Happy conquering!

The PvP Progression System provides additional rewards for players engaged in PvP. The more Expeditions were played, the higher the PvP level will be. Tied to the level, there will be additional PvP specific rewards and unlocks.
    Basics:
    • 30 PvP levels can be unlocked by gathering PvP XP
    • A reward will be provided for every level reached
    • PvP XP can be gained by defeating enemy units on player occupied Expedition islands
    • It will be included in the Expedition loot mail until the max. PvP level was reached
    • Active Premium time provides 50% more PvP XP
The following step-by-step introduction will explain the new system in detail and provide a brief manual about it.

    Open the new interface
Below the Avatar, on the left-hand side, a new button will be added, showing the current PvP level.
Clicking on it will open the new interface.

When opening the new interface, the Overview tab will be active, as seen on the left-hand side.

    Progression System - Status Overview

    • PvP Level
The current PvP level is displayed on top of the window (Here: Level 30)
    • Strength Points
A counter shows the numerical value of the current amount of strength points (status bar mouseover). Strength points are being used to determine which colonies can be found (Colony Tier 1,2,3).

      A) Strength points bar (Here: 5/30 Strength Points, not PvP level)
      B) Colony Tier (Here: Colony Tier I active. II, III: Not enough Strength Points)
    • Colony Tier
Depending on how many successful Colony Expeditions have been played, Strength Points are gathered (or lost) automatically.
The current Colony Tier (1 for Easy, 2 for Intermediate, or 3 for Hard) is based on this value.
The Tier of a found Colony is displayed in the lower left corner:
    • Strength Point / Colony Tier Ranges
      1-10 Strength Points = Colony Tier 1
      11-20 Strength Points = Colony Tier 2
      21-30 Strength Points = Colony Tier 3
The current Tier is displayed in graphical form in the PvP Overview (see above)
    • Permanent Colony Bonuses
For every 5th PvP level up (5,10,15,20,15,30), special permanent bonus rewards will be gained. These rewards cumulate with every new bonus multiplier.
      Example:
LvL 5: +5% Valor Points multiplier
Lvl. 15: Another +5% Valor Points multiplier
Total with PvP level 15: 10% Valor Point multiplier
    • Buttons
      Left: Colony Achievements
      Right: Water Castle information

The second tab on the left-hand side opens the PvP Level window. It provides an overview of the current PvP level and rewards.

    • Pvp Level status bar: Displays the current PvP level
    • Rewards: Each PvP level will provide rewards.
They can include items, permanent boosters or surprise packs.

Collected | Ready to collect | Upcoming

Once a new PvP level is reached, an indicator next to the PvP Level button indicates the level up.

Clicking it will bring up the reward window and allow you to collect the PvP level up rewards.

Important: It doesn't matter where the PvP level up reward is collected (via level up notification or PvP overview window). In case of multiple level ups without collecting the rewards, they can be collected via the PvP overview window. One reward (stack) can be collected for each PvP level up.

The Water Castle reflects the gathered PvP experience. It unlocks its upgrade functionality when the PvP level increases. The Water Castle is a purely decorative item placed on the sea in the middle of the island. It does not take up any space used for regular buildings.

The Water Castle is part of the PvP Rewards.
Its building deed will be transferred to the Star Menu as a reward for reaching PvP level 2.

After every 2nd PvP level up the Water Castle can be upgraded as well. As there are 30 PvP levels available with the first iteration of the new Progression System, there are 15 Water Castle levels.

Requirements: PvP level 2, sector 4 discovered & claimed (with a warehouse)
