i not point here is this good or bad or what is better.
we must know is this bug or this should work on this way.

i play colonies only because of PVP xp. to optimize my pvp xp/ losses ratio i must know

It is possible to test this quite quickly on the test server, by starting an expedition, killing with your different methods for just 1 sector and cancelling the expedition.
use notepad. it's simple to calculate because always is same number of enemies in camp.

also you can make 3 simple test with attack 1 time only cavalry camps and cancel, next only ranged and cancel and third only melee camp and cancel. to avoid confusion about different xp because of different unit type

Bandit Ranger, Rougneck, War Dog is 3 pvp xp per 1
Bandit Recruit is 1 pvp xp per 1
Bandit Bowman, Thug, Bandit Cavalry is 2 pvp xp per 1
    leader is 50 pvp xp

I can confirm that my guild mate and I have observed the same thing. You only get XP from the camps (enemy units) you kill. Killing the leader does not give you the XP from the whole sector.

I think the Dev Diary clearly says that only killed units give xp.

really clearly??? why i get the pvp xp when i attack bandit expeditions
in your "clearly" quote is only for player occupied expedition islands

defeated and killed for me is two different things.
After you kill bandit leader all units in sector are defeated, not killed

Corona is right, we PvP XP only from the camps we kill, and for me there is no clear information from BB about how PvP xp is calculated .
My guess is, that this is a bug

you can see here amount of star coins is same but amount of PVP XP is different.
When i attack only leader camp i skip other camps in sector

When i attack and destroy 3 camp and leader camp

star coins works for whole sectros, PVP XP not

Excellent post corona88. I had a hunch on this. So as it stands now, even if it's not a bug I am still going to wait however long it takes until this is changed. I think risking all those resources/troops on doing some very complex blocks should be rewarded at minimum with experience. I'm just glad this was confirmed before I invested my huge stock pile of weapons into it. Thanks again.

When new pvp ranking features came out I took myself from 40/35 Strength (no idea how that's even possible) down to 0/35 for achievment reasons. So when it was time for me to go back up to Tier 3 to get serious into it, I was going through pvp maps so fast I didn't even notice. But I started too once I was getting back into tricky blocks again. The experience just wasn't coming through as I would expect.

I do not know where this information was gathered from, but i find the wiki very reliable: settlersonlinewiki.eu/ranking-and-level-system-pvp/
So xp is calculated from what you kill and seems to be intentionally this way and not a bug:

    Experience

    1 per player unit
    2 per bandit weak unit
    3 per bandit strong unit
    50 per sector boss
    200 per map boss

again player with only half informations and wiki have a lot mistake.
also on wiki nothing say about how you can collect pvp xp, only how many you can get per units

for example for bandit recruit you get only 1 pvp xp per unit.
wiki info is 1 pvp xp per unit is only for player unit.
