Another random thought...
The medals could be awarded for individual battles
- a purple heart awarded for losing a battle that had > 50% chance of winning
- valor medals awarded sequentially for winning battles that had < 50% chance of winning
This would encourage players to take a little more risk, basically... follow the guides and you won't get any awards
Also this means players would need to use all their gens, rather than my earlier suggestion where a MG or MMA could grind away and win awards for all the other gens
