where are you getting the 50 brew from if not 50 wheat + 100 water to make it ?
buy it in trade , add the coins you spend, but still the brew is nor free, same goes for the gunpowder
a production chain starts at 0
first you spend resources to make " brew "
then you spend " brew " to make a unit
the unit needs gunpowder
Again, first you spend salt to make it
and then you use the gunpowder for the unit.
you did use all these resources to come to 1 unit

Not saying you dont need it, im saying you dont need as much as you state, 50 wheat and 100 water gives you 50 brew so you either need 100 water and 50 wheat to make the brew or you just need 50 brew you do not need 100 water , 50 wheat and 50 brew like you state.
The same argument could be used for any troop rec etc.
if you dont need the water / wheat to make the unit , why have farms , the brew you use has to be made and uses this so you will have these resources less in your storage when you make it
start with nothing
add 100 water + 50 wheat to your storage to make 50 brew ( water + wheat spend )
your storage will have only 50 brew in it
now add 12 saltpeter to make 2 gunpowder ( saltpeter will be gone )
you'll have 50 brew + 2 gunpowder in your storage
now add 8 mahogany wood and make the arquebus ( 2 gunpowder + mahogany wood will be gone )
You'll have 50 brew + 1 arquebus in your storage
Add 1 settler and use the arquebus + brew to make 1 marksman
Your storage will be empty and you will have 1 marksman
items in storage used = water + wheat + salt + mahogany + brew + arquebus + gunpowder + settler
its not cos you made something to use that the cost of making it is not there
The image is to show only the production chain of Arquebuses, not the chain for training a trooper.
The following four informational images provide an overview of the new production chains, from old & new resources to new products (which are needed to produce elite units).
in my opinion those are troops, not just the arquebus
P.S. Dappadon is trying to say that:
(50 wheat + 100 water = 50 brew) +
((12 saltpeter = 2 gunpowder) + (8 mahogany wood) = 1 arquebus) +
(1 settler)
= 1 Marksman
Would be a more sensible way of imparting the information purely to avoid the ambiguity of resource elements used versus resources required.
It is in a section called Production Chains under a title of Arquebus, quite distinctly has the text "The following four informational images provide an overview of the new production chains, from old & new resources to new products (which are needed to produce elite units)." and yet you somehow think the image is about Marksmen.
If they showed the production chain of iron bars, would you expect them to totally ignore listing all the items that iron bars are used in?
