In answer to the nonsense point....

In fairness to larger guilds, including mine [Pegasus]:

We invite those who seem to be active in Global One. If I invite in G1, I go to whisper and explain why I am inviting and I do make the point that other guilds are available.

We make help available to all - but we try to make this level appropriate [certainly we respect the tutorial].

A mail is sent at the outset to explain our expectations and what new friends can expect from us. New friends are on probation (based on the mail that is sent). It is made explicit that the guild is on probation with the newer friend too.

If we see friends asking for help elsewhere, we will contact them to explain that the help that they are after is generally available in the guild. I welcome those who point friends to ask for help in their guild. But frankly some of you could be nicer about it...

We can say that help is available in Guild chat - but we cannot tell them not to visit other areas of chat - nor would we want to.

The impact on our credibility of friends asking for help elsewhere is negligible - because we know that we act appropriately and supportively. We have been as firm with friends who help too much as with new friends who ask for too much.

Those who persist in asking for help in other rooms will probably not last with us - because we will have helped as much as we think is appropriate. Those who continue to want more, are subverting the need for a good economy. But you can be assured that this is explained to them.

We have a high levels of active friends and complete GQ within a day or so (Max 3 days). Our members [friends] enjoy the benefits of being in Pegasus and would not choose to join another guild if the opportunity were offered (Feel free to test this out and invite them

    Happy Settling,
    EWiggin...

I am editing this having read the following thread (which is referenced in this one):

    forum.thesettlersonline.com/threads/29304-Prevent-guild-membership-till-level-17-Guild-coins

...I saw lots of rhetoric about big guilds desperately clinging on to inactive members to get more guild coins!

What a foolish thing this would be! I cannot conceive of a guild who are not pursuing an active membership.

According to the Wiki, 72% of friends must complete their mission for the guild to complete the Guild Quest.
    http://www.settlersonlinewiki.eu/guides/guild/

    Currently,
after allowing for sickness, holidays and shift patterns, we are required to have 69 friends complete
their Guild Quest to get the rewards. I'll leave you to do the math!

My message is that perhaps you should be targeting your vitriol at bad guilds - not just at guilds that are big. It's not fair to tar all guilds with the same brush.

And I'd further echo, that the frequent complaints about the game here and in G1 do far more harm to player retention

    Still Happy Settling,
    EWiggin...

I fully support the comments of EWiggin. Having been in several guilds and having founded one, its a lot of work to keep everyone happy.

We play the game for fun, not because we are on some power trip to lead a large guild -I go to work for that and get paid nicely. I don't get paid for helping run a guild.

If you do everything for a low level player they get no feeling of achievement and are more likely to leave the game.

Give a person 15k bread, they'll create 625 settlers. Give them some stone & pwp and they'll be able to make their own bread.

Help comes in many forms, and often is thrown back in your face or just ignored.

As a member of one of the larger Guilds I wholeheartedly agree with EWiggin and not just because I am a part of Pegasus

I was invited early into my starting the game but only by someone who continued to help me out in Guild Chat. I don't think I have ever gone into other chats to ask for help but even if I did, is that not what they are there for??

The help I have received since joining the game six months ago has been most forthcoming and regardless of where that help comes from, surely it is better to have a happy gamer rather than one that is totally out of their depth with the game and leaves quickly
