i can't help but wonder if this is implemented because the chat crash can't be fixed

this new Chat. Sometimes I refresh deliberately to get rid of all chat, that choice has now been taken away

You can still minimize chat with the "_"
(top right corner of chat window )

I actually haven't seen any difference - but I don't tend to be on Global and my guild is pretty quiet. All I know is that I was in the middle of a complicated block at the moment the notification showed up and it scared the bajebus out of me

I love this! No more missed messenges either because the chat restarts or my computer acts up (which it regularly does). Thank you!
