That said I have absolutely nothing against st Patrick's day, or the stuff sent on that occasion, but I can understand why people from lots of other countries would say that their national day is just as important as the Irish.
Oh can you tell me when Xmas and New years day became political.
When it comes to Gene pools and shallow ends they can be found at the bar drinking pina colada's

She's upset because her husband is a dim-wit, not because he is a sexist.

And if the Irish were worried about being stereotyped as drunks they wouldn't make a massive thing of St Patrick's Day, most celebrations all over the world seeming to involve drinking green Guinness in vast quantities.

It's always a good idea not to get offended on someone else's behalf. If they are offended, doubtless they will let us know themselves, unless you are stereotyping the Irish as too thick to be able to do so?

Incidentally, in order for your example to be one of sexism, you are making the assumption that the wife must be the wife of a man. Homophobia!!!!!!!!

The whole, entire (now defunct) Arabic server is one example.

I can't believe people react so much about such things. It's the over reaction I'm mentioning.
The *groan*ing above, the *eyeroll*ing of last year when this same subject was raised, and as I recall... your comment about pulling chairs out for your wife used as an example of equity, along with the absolute strawman of people "who hate flowers" raise some obvious questions about just who is missing the point and overreacting. Dismissiveness, played out in the manner of a petulant adolescent, contributes little to a conversation.

It is absolutely exhausting trying to explain, in a reasoned manner, to people looking to deny problems, or to those more focused on defending themselves, that something may indeed be a symptom of a larger problem.

This is a casual response to a Trade issue:

That last year the game's German Facebook page *blew up* with complaints about flowers for the girls...

All of this adds up. See "microaggression"

Trying to pin someone to the wall and labeling them "phobic", OleGit, for neglecting to include different marital combinations as a way of making a point in an otherwise very well thought out, calm, fair, and gentle post, in no way detracts from the history of "Derp derp... women? That's a thing? Wait... And they're people too?"

Is it the end of the world? No. No-one has said it is. Are flowers nice? Yep, when they're appropriate, like say in the Valentine's Day gift perhaps only there are no flowers in that gift. Is all of this symptomatic of a larger general issue? Yep. Yes, BB have made progress and that's grand but as the specific issue of the Women's Day gift has come up every year and has clearly been ignored it is irrational to be surprised, or put out, or snit-fitty, that it came up again this year.

That took a lot of time Iolanthe.
(btw pulling a chair out for my wife isn't a sign of equity, it's just a simple gesture of respect and courtesy)

But go ahead and keep the issue burning...
Sorry, but I've slept since then...

Aye, typing out something with more thought behind it than "groan" "rolls eyes" took a little time. I'm okay with that.

You have to be kidding me. You complain about that and miss the obvious chance to skewer me for assuming they are Christian? Or that they are monogamous? Come on now, if you want to throw up a straw man, try harder, there's lots more opportunities there.

Nowhere did I say I was offended on someone else's behalf. Straw man #2. *

It is one thing to take offense. It is another thing entirely to point out injustice. Just because someone might label one "offended" (the horror!) does not make the practice of pointing out injustice any less worthy. And to make a big stink about people raising those issues on a day specifically meant to increase awareness and work towards a more inclusive, gender equal world, is somewhere between tone-deaf and outright hostile.

When you're accustomed to privilege, equality can feel like oppression. Dismissing reasoned arguments without consideration is a weak thing done by weak people.

Could you not take a moment to cultivate some empathy instead of lashing out?

    * I am offended, actually, I'm offended for all the women and the girls that have to put up with this nonsense.

Oh the injustice of BB sending everyone some virtual brew on St Patrick's Day to the offence of not a single Irish man or woman!

Thread is now closed due to the deterioration of civil discussion. This is the second time I've had to close a thread regarding a Community Event, both of which contain the same players resorting to petty bickering. Please don't let this happen again, as I don't want to progress to further moderation.
