It's always a good idea not to get offended on someone else's behalf. If they are offended, doubtless they will let us know themselves, unless you are stereotyping the Irish as too thick to be able to do so?

Trying to pin someone to the wall and labeling them "phobic", OleGit, for neglecting to include different marital combinations as a way of making a point in an otherwise very well thought out, calm, fair, and gentle post, in no way detracts from the history of "Derp derp... women? Is it the end of the world? No. No-one has said it is. Are flowers nice? Yep, when they're appropriate, like say in the Valentine's Day gift perhaps only there are no flowers in that gift. Is all of this symptomatic of a larger general issue? Yep. Yes, BB have made progress and that's grand but as the specific issue of the Women's Day gift has come up every year and has clearly been ignored it is irrational to be surprised, or put out, or snit-fitty, that it came up again this year.

It is one thing to take offense. It is another thing entirely to point out injustice. Just because someone might label one "offended" (the horror!) does not make the practice of pointing out injustice any less worthy. And to make a big stink about people raising those issues on a day specifically meant to increase awareness and work towards a more inclusive, gender equal world, is somewhere between tone-deaf and outright hostile.
When you're accustomed to privilege, equality can feel like oppression. Dismissing reasoned arguments without consideration is a weak thing done by weak people.
Could you not take a moment to cultivate some empathy instead of lashing out?
