Amendment to the 1st point: do log on 6 days constantly to collect crystals but never bother to show up on the 7th day as it will only give useless gems. Anyway, you can get cheap gems on trade office for crystals or fish, there are plenty offers.

The best way to ply the game follows in order 1, never log on everyday only log on every other day.

When leaving to bed, put all buildings to sleep. When you wake up, wake them to. When you leave to lunch, or any other meal, give your settlers some food. When day is rainy, log off and go out to enjoy the weather.

Forget trying to achieve any economic balance. Spend resources on buffing everything and buy what you need - why worry about making it consistently yourself? All those blinking warnings about buildings not having resources can be ignored easily just by sleeping them...
Sorry, but I've slept since then...

Lightbulb ~Complete Guide to The Settlers Online~

This is a simple game: you only need 2 things - xp and gems.
    1. How to get xp:
You get xp from 2 things: quests and adventures.
Quests give way too little xp compared to adventures so dont complete any quests, play adventures instead.

    2. How to get gems:
Best source of free gems is a Gem Pit. Quickest way to gather gems for Gem Pit is the Excelsior. First you need to earn some crystals. Convert your crystals to short letters. Convert your short letters to Quest buffs. Select the Quest buffs in your Star menu. Use quest buffs on your mayors house. Once you have completed the quest you have earned your free Gems! If you run out of crystals don't worry, you can buy more with gems! Just repeat this easy process until you have enough gems for Gem Pit. Congratulations you have made it! There is only one tiny little thing left to do - build storehouses to store all the gems you'll be hoarding. 1 storehouse stores 100 gems so you need 400 storehouses. That's 32000 pinewood planks and stone. So go to merchant and buy 80 Starter packs - each of those contain 400 pinewood planks and stone. Hint: don't buy the pinewood planks and stone directly, that is way too expensive. Now build the storehouses (you might have to buy some building licences too) and you're all set!

    easy one,
follow the security measures and dont install flash in your browser. using puffin is also no recomended. If for any chance it ends up running in your pc, dont allow it when it asks for permission

build your army for defense, never leave your island, you could be attacked by a jealous neighbour
and don't worry, xp is overated. stay level 1, you won't have to worry about the millions you need for next level
