[Dev Diary] Weekly Challenges & Training Grounds

    Dear Settlers,

The next update includes two brand new additions to your daily Settler life: a new Weekly Challenge system, and two Training Ground buildings to help with Barrack production. In this Dev Diary, we'll go into both of these in more detail so you can get the most out of them once they hit your servers in the future:

First, let's talk about the new Weekly Challenges! When you first investigate this new system at level 26, you'll be given a random challenge out of a pool. You'll then have 167 hours (a week) to complete it: if you succeed, you can begin a new challenge immediately. This means that you can pursue and complete these challenges as often as you'd like so long as you succeed. If you fail a challenge by not completing it within the allotted 167 hours, it will fail and you will then be able to accept a new challenge.

Let's take a look at the challenges that will be available:

    ChallengeDescription
EpidemicA ship of the Maya arrives on your shores. Inflicted with a mysterious epidemic sickness, they seek your help in order to contain and cure the outbreak.
Kingdom DefenceHaving demonstrated great millitary leadership, generals from nearby kingdoms have sent a ship to your shore in order to improve their own millitary might.
Town ConstructionMarvelling at your beautifully constructed towns, a mayor from a distant land would like your help in learning your techniques so he can build his own idillec town.
Archaeological Excavation While preparing some land for building development, an ally stumbled upon a huge ancient structure buired in the earth! They need you help to excavate it.

All of these challenges will contain stages which ask you to accomplish things such as producing resources, completing adventures creating and applying buffs etc. What they do not contain is any luck-based tasks, such as treasure hunts; this means you can more predictably complete these challenges with some consistency, without the fear of running out of time due to bad luck.

So what rewards can you expect for tackling these Weekly Challenges? XP and a brand new currency: Tokens! These can be used to upgrade your residence buildings, which will provide you with a nice alternative method in giving you a bump in the population department. Here's the token payout for each level range per challenge completed:

    Level RangeToken Payout
    26-359 Tokens
    36-4513 Tokens
    46-5517 Tokens
    56-6521 Tokens
    66-7525 Tokens

    These tokens are not tradable.

You can use the tokens to upgrade many special residence buildings. Different buildings have a different maximum level, token cost, upgrade time and increase in population per level.

The Training Grounds consist of two new buildings, both of which boost the output of your Barracks and Elite Barracks respectively. Constructing multiple of the same building will stack the bonus speed too! Let's take a look at both buildings:

Name: Training Grounds (not tradable, giftable, not deletable)
    Type: Building
Description: Boosts the recruitment speed of normal barracks by 50%
Cost: 3,950 Gems or 19,950 Magic Beanstalks

Name: Elite Training Grounds (not tradable, giftable*, not deletable)
    Type: Building
Description: Boosts the recruitment speed of elite barracks by 50%
Cost: 7,950 Gems or 39,950 Magic Beanstalks

*Only giftable when bought using Gems

Both of these two new additions should provide an abundance of activities for you all to enjoy all year round!
We hope you enjoy it and don't hesitate to share your > feedback < with us.

    Happy settling!
