Once the option is there - the game is pointless. And it is not really any game left on normal server at level 76. All the stuff they put into the game to earn money selling gems, have made the game boring.

I know that the point is testing, but cant really be bothered doing the same adv with the same gens that I have stopped bother doing on normal server. I am still there for a bit - mostly to chat a bit with players from other servers.
I don't understand why you can't just go on and ignore the shop if you enjoyed playing the game that way. Like I mentioned others bumped to 80, I won't, I will just do what I planned on doing. And people play on live without ever buying gems.

The point was to test on that server, the point is still there.

Well a big part of the fun is playing with others, helping each other out, sharing problems solving them. That part is gone when most play by other rules. And you know you can just go and buy the stuff. I
It was fun as long as it lasted, and reminded me that maybe it is time to find a new less boring game.
I got to remember why settlers was fun in the first place. Sending explorers one by one is not fun. Doing the same adv lots of time for a quest or ach - or what ever - not really fun. The game has been ruined by adding too much, but not adding new interesting content like new adventures.
it was very clear when you saw how many people who actually had fun when the unity test started.
If for some reason support feels the need to edit what I wrote, please delete entire post instead, dont put words into my mouth that I never said.

That is because everyone was at the same stage and I think you are underestimating the enjoyment people got out of competing with others.

You never get that on live anyway and they could start new servers but that creates problems for the existing ones and they can barely run the ones they have now as far as I can see. I actually see more helping on live than here - people don't have much to give here and the lag with even making simple trades deterred me from doing many quests. I think it is the amount of 'helping' in fact that makes the game worse for new players. With the ability to give others 100s of thousands of resources, the new player is able to rush through things and it makes large parts of the game meaningless.

For some it was the competition - but for most it was not. It was fun because you had to plan think and make an effort to get on.

I enjoyed playing as a noob while it lasted, but it is a test server - at some point the play had to end. I will continue "testing" but you have to realise that your island, your guild, and your friends will not be there forever.
I agree that there was a great community spirit when everyone was struggling to harvest enough resources, and that the game becomes considerably less challenging with every new specialist/building/buff that's released, but those concerns are not relevant to just getting the unity client working.

I always played that way on live, i.e. with little to no help. I agree playing that way is more fun but just because people have millions of resources to share with you on live or gems for fish in the merchant on test, does not mean you have to help yourself to them.

No you dont, but I dont play alone - I like to work with others, and that only makes sense if you have the same rules. I knew it was for a limited time and that is ok, I just more or less lost interest the moment the free gems was there.

This is test and what we can learn from this is that some want settlers to go on forever,- doing the same stuff, tending their island. Some live for event and hope that can bring some change and something to do. For many in the long run (me included) that is not enough ,- we want something to do in the game, challenges that does not include doing adv we have no way of getting (like the weekly nightmares). Something that requires using your brain and working together, like starting on a fresh server from level 1. I suggested that you could make a speed server event. A server that was there for a limited time, maybe at a faster speed, and the goal could be to reach some level like 50. You might then get a price to take home, that might be an extra island or something nice, not more clutter to add to the existing.

so a competition, which is the exact opposite of 'working together'. And would everyone be on equal ground in terms of lag and the ability to actually even play the game?

No not a competition - dont know why you are so fixated on that. Unless you think that achieving something in the game- like reaching level 50 before event is over a competition. I dont want to compete with others than myself, - doing that helping others to achieve the same, and chatting in the process, makes it more fun.

because I literally can't understand why you have lost all interest in playing the test server because the game is still the same if you don't use the gems unless you are competing against others.

you could do exactly as you claim you want, well other than the prize on the test server, i.e. reach 50 before they release it live.
