    Update:

    Thank you for your patience while we have been investigating these issues. The online services for a number of our titles, and Ubisoft Connect should now be recovering and we are continuing to work on a full resolution for these issues.

    It definitely feels like Ubi$oft Connect is the root of this problem as was getting the "this service is unavailable" message mentioned in the original thread just before this began happening, and the "general error" message is consistent with being logged out externally whilst in game.
    Other games attached to UPlay similarly affected as were the ancillary services like friend lists.

    Slava Ukraine.

    Just logged back in (around 3.30am GMT) and login process is playing up again, only manifesting different symptoms.
    The manly white login page has the spinning UPlay symbol and the word "error" in small red lettering lower down.
    Closed it using the X in the top corner and tried again, this time successfully.
    But very unusual is the return of the "Login - Legacy account" button!
    Seen it appear as a fleeting glimpse occasionally as if some old cached graphic gets replaced, but this appears permanently.
