How about starting to do the updates late at night, at a time when the traffic in the servers is at a low? Why to you must keep the players away from the game during day time? I am writing this while waiting for an update that started at 8:00 CET and is expected now to be finished by 16:00 CET. This makes no sense whatsoever. As a paying customer, this is very frustrating.

There are game servers all across the planet, it's going to be day time in at least half of the worlds 27 time zones no matter what time they do it.
Easy, you update the servers separately.
Usually less easy as it seems as there is a cost impact associated with this and practicalities- If something goes wrong , you want staff on hand to fix it and to have all on standby in the middle of the night is not very practical
Mornings during weekdays usually are fairly quiet and all staff is in the office - so the choice makes sense from that perspective
As this is not the greatest revenue generator, don't expect tons of cash to be thrown at it for the players convenience
