Settlers is a tradesman paradise, and hoarding all sort of stuff is an important part of game but i really see no point in placing coins along with other resources in storehouse. Whole idea of having to send surplus coins to star menu is silly, Im sure many lvl50 players would be much happier with no limit on amount of coins they could have, like lets say we dont have any limitations on amount of gems we can own.

Good point. Coin is not stored in a warehouse, but in a vault.

Ive heard this rumor about deleting mails soons thats one of the reasons nighteye, and coins belong to vault or something as wreckless said...300k storage here with nearly 400k coins, Id like to see them all the time to remind me of good time i have with this game
Storage in mail or in star is not a good solution for resources, for one thing it induces lag for both you and all others on the server. In fact in all the time I've been playing i'm surprised that BB have never said that this is a supported feature or a unsupported one for that matter. If you want more swords bread etc than your storage can hold then the answer is build more storage on your island, to support this BB have recently given us bigger storehouses. The truth here is that BB have given us the tools but if your unwilling to use them for whatever reason then you have nobody else to blame but yourselves for the consequences. However with that said coins are an exception and I've always found it strange that the amount that one can own is dictated by resource storage.

Really coins are only a standard currency because we, the players, feel like calling it as such. You don't need coins to pay for troops or any form of maintenance, their only use that resembles a need for a currency is the specialists from the tavern.
Other than that, coins are just another upgrade material, like marble, or granite, or hardwood planks.
There's no more of a reason for coin to not use the storage as anything else.
