There is a special thread per server for it where you can ask for friends.

Since you are playing on the Newfoundland server, you should use this thread: New Players - [Ask for friend requests here] - Newfoundland

It's also nice if you at least speak in global before you add someone as a friend (just ask ) as most people turn down random friend requests
