Thumbs down Quests - BAD idea

Settlers has more originality than that... every single stupid multiplayer game has that setup these days. You want to stand out and do justice to the original and creative heritage of Settlers? Get rid of this quest setup.
Apart from the fact that it's annoying to constantly get taken from one quest to another (really, some free play is much more appreciated) it's frankly kinda insulting to think we need to be taken by the hand like little toddlers.

    Think about it.

Your talking about the tutorial only, i asume? Because otherwise there is not that much hand holding. And a tutorial is meant to have no free play.

We had daily quests at Christmas time - there was no compulsion to do them and they did add a little extra to each day's play. Look forward to their return, hopefully bigger and better.

Hmmmm i dont see this as an insult to the original settlers, even more its good for new players whom never played this before, like me for instance is tutorials a good thing,I have friends playing the settlers on their pc,even they say this is good for newbies.Lets all be happy we even can play here for free, and if ya want to do extras....wel yea thats even great to cuz we deside if we wanna pay for gems or not, blue byte didnt squeeze our hand to buy didnt they.
Gota say this is a verry nice and good game.Questq for that matter?? yes why not, like unlucky says here with chrismas and other sure must be fun.
But ofcourse everybody has his/hers idea and we cant judge ones idea's or comment fot this.

no one has to folow the tutorial word by word. I didint, i knew from the beggining never mind a cuter and aforester and a saw and a quary, that setting would never have worked and anyone can notice that never is going to be too much of anything as soon as you have a look a how much things cost to build. It is nothing wrong with the tutorial, is very usefull for people like dragonito descrive.
if you are a more experienced user then you know that one of anything is never going to be good for you. follow the tutorial at your own discretion.

Every settlers game I've played has had a tutorial to teach new players how to play the game. The only criticism I'd have of this one is that for some people the xp award fails so they're stuck unable to do the next task.

Having never really played much settlers I found the tutorial very useful and never once saw it as hand holding. If it had gone on up through the levels then maybe, but it's just enough to make you think for yourself and learn the basics. As for quests - I'm not quite sure what you mean. In the tutorial the quest is to get to the next level, which pretty much carries on but with each level you get some reward so it's something to aim at. Daily quests were introduced at Christmas, and as has been said, they weren't compulsory. I just reached adventures when they stopped so I'm lookingn forward to seeing what's being introduced at Easter. For me these break things up a bit while yo're building up resources or troops and makes it a little more interesting
