    I'm beginning to wonder

I'm a level 28 player with 2 sectors on my map left to be cleared. I've been plodding along working mostly on my production infrastructure so I'm ready to start adventuring once my island is cleared. Currently my population allows me a army of 300 troops, which is OK as the bandit camps have needed no more than 200 troops to clear them. Now i'm faced with a guild quest which calls for me to have 500 troops, with a waiting guild quest of do an adventure losing less than 500 troops. Players of my level can't afford to buy nobles at the drop of the hat from trade, I could build nobles losing building slots which my mines need, shut down weapons production due to no more incoming copper, make 200 retired bandits then train the troops for the 1st quest, then do a bounty hunter to do the 2nd. then tear down the nobles to restart copper mining. Alternatively I could buy gems for nobles but wont as I see being forced to part with cash to do a quest as unethical.

Whoever is responsible for these quests clearly needs to be introduced with a terminal velocity block of granite until a state of enlightenment is achieved.

Please, please stop the blue sky dreaming and start making common sense decisions about new quests.

Is there such a guild quest requiring you to have 500 troops? I personally haven't seen any but who knows with those new guild quests

Guess you are referring to "Earning Respect"?
That quest is indeed appearing too early. The first time I did horseback, I was also around level 29 I believe. I didn't manage to do it while losing less than 500 recruits.

Somewhere between level 30 and 33, there are main quests asking you to:
    - increase your population limit to 800
    - have at least 100 soldiers
    - have at least 500 recruits

This on top of earlier quests asking you to:
    - have at least 100 militia
    - have at least 50 cavalry

Currently I'm level 34 and figuring out how to get so much coin to upgrade my noble residences to level 4, so that I can have a population capacity of 1000 and have a third general. You will understand that a quest asking to lose less than 500 recruits is no longer a problem.

Trust me: invest in marble and hardwood and you will do well. Just leave this quest open for a while.

the levels at early 30's are the most constraining ones. Like you say, affording noble deeds is a challenge at that point. Once you do, the population cap will be permanently higher for you, and even though further quests may ask you to increase it again, you are not 'stuck' anymore as your population limit allows you to play the easier adventures without hindrance. You can just keep doing those and earn loot and experience points just as well as you would from more difficult ones.

So being stuck now with an army size of less than 500 is very constraining, and that may be exactly the reason BB has this quest up. It prepares you for the adventure part of the game, which simply can't be done with only a few hundred unit's capacity.

Don't force yourself to adventures with a too small army. Focus on your economy for a while, and once you do get those few noble deeds to add a couple of hundred extra pop, things will start rolling for good. Your next stop from there will be hitting lv50

Not sure if this is entirely true, since myself I'm facing quite a slow-down on my way to level 50 at the moment. All my buildings are at least level 3; upgrading one costs 500 coins. It takes - with one coinage - quite a while before you earned 500 coins. So, upgrading your buildings to level 4 is a time consuming activity.

But, as mentioned by King-Fero, it's no longer boringly waiting, since you can keep yourself busy with the easier adventures in the meanwhile.

Don't spend your coins on upgrading nobles to lvl 4... just buy noble deeds from trade. Better spent coins that way plus more population.

I'm playing without buying (certainly after reading some stories of players losing their account).
I believe that the best thing to buy for gems will be the veteral general, so I'm saving my gems for it.
You're suggesting to spend it on noble deeds instead?

am suggesting to buy noble deeds with gold coins instead of upgrading nobles to lvl 4

We are talking about the same Noble Residence Deeds aren't we? They are for sale for 95 gems. How can I buy them for coins?
