As it is this is hardly a serious fault that can't wait till Monday. Annoying yes but serious, no.

I work for a major multinational manufacturing company and it is the same system.
Even the Germans were really upset that BB hadn't fixed it over the weekend, so BB did get a lot of feedback about it. However, it is possible to work round it until the problem has been fixed. We expect the table to fail next weekend too, and we prepare for that. Then it won't be a surprise if it does.

If you have a sensitive system you use people on call. So they don't need to be at the office but if something is not working properly, you call them in. The beautiful thing with programming is that there is no reason what so ever for the coder monkeys to go to the actual office. All they need is an internet connection and all work could be done from anywhere in the world. Having people on call costs money too but not as much as having people just sitting around at the office. If you want to be taken serious with a game that is running 24/7, then you need people on call. Now this is an event and the score board has broken down two weekends in a row. I think they should really spend some time trying to fix it. But then again, BB has repeatedly shown in the past that they hate their customers.

Even programmers sitting at home cost the same as programmers going into the office. If they did provide support 24/7, do you think it would still be a free to play game?

That is entirely dependent on they contract. You can design it so they get a little bit of money for the time that they are on stand by and then they get more money when they are actually needed. This is an extremely common way to do things. You don't need an army of programmers. You need one or two and they would most likely handle a whole bunch of the games offered by BB. There are several online games offered by BB you know.

Yes, but they still have to think it's worth the money, regardless of how many online games they make. Apparently they don't at the moment.
